On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

Hey guys

I was thinking of making a Dwarf WFB army using non-GW miniatures - partly because I can't order GW stuff because of the RoW trade embargo, but also because I have discovered some other sculpts recently that I really like.

Anyway, for anyone who has experience and perhaps has them in their collection, I wonder how the following match in terms of scale to each other? Also, if they rank up and sit comfortably next to each other?

These are the miniatures in particular:

Gamezone miniatures Dwarves http://gamezoneminiatures.de/zwerge.html

Warrior boxset:

Along with hasslefree Dwarves (quite cool little guys http://www.hasslefreeminiatures.co.uk/range.php?range_id=29 )

Finally, Reaper miniatures which have some great sculpts for heroes/musicians and the like http://www.scifigenre.com/itemList.aspx?sid=2W2JXMLNP0UJWGJ&nSubCategoryID=135&nExpandToID=2126

This kind of thing:

Finally, I think the Scibor Dwarves are a little too far and round to fit well in with the rest of the models I have posted above, but I may use a 'Dwarf on war bear' counts-as a lord with shield bearers. Yes the rules don't fit well but I think the model is just to great to pass up

Also, if anyone is aware of any other avenues for fantasy dwarves please let me know! I'm not really a fan of the GW or Mantic dwarves (with the exception of a few character models) but I'm still at the planning stage at the moment so am prepared to take onboard any ideas people may have!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm yes they are expensive RiTides, although I will probably be getting just the one of them, and I feel my life will not be complete unless I have bought at least one dwarf riding a bear miniature

Thanks very much for the links guys, especially the westwindproductions miniature ones Kroothawk. They might be a cheaper way of padding out some units. I'm not really a fan of the Mantic dwarf design unfortunately sin_un_nombre. tona7 thanks I was hoping to make some characters up using some of the Reaper miniatures as well, they have done some very characterful sculpts! My concern was the size as I bought a hobbit from them once and the model was tiny, really so much smaller than even a GW hobbit!

A final question now, I was hopefully going to fit in some old OOP GW 'Imperial Dwarves' (from the late 80s). I love the style of the older GW dwarves, before they became 'heroically proportioned', and used to really like these models when I first got into Warhammer. I know they are small by todays standards, but does anyone have these miniatures and can attest to how small they are? This kind of thing:

Thanks again for the replies!

Haha yes thanks I believe I posted it twice actually! I don't think they are that bad per se, I just much prefer some of the other interpretations of Dwarves!

Thanks for the help again guys!

This is the bear-rider I plan to use as the army general (most likely a 'counts as' lord with shield bearers, which I think would come closest to representing a mount).

I actually think the Scibor dwarves are a little too rotund (a problem shared by GW dwarves) but the extra girth can be explained by him being Dwarf royalty, and therefore having eaten many pies

Bit of a long gap since I last posted here. I've been steadily collecting some dwarfkin from some of the companies above, and just recently mixed in an old GW Mordheim Dwarf band that I had floating about.

However, bit of a bummer, it looks like the price of Gamezone miniatures have gone up (at least from the sellers I used previously - Maelstrom and Wayland) to £8.95 for a blister pack of 3! Now they are lovely models, but that's rather on the upper side of expensive for me, and I'm in the unenviable position of having some half done units.

Just a quick query if anyone knows of a UK seller that has them at a lower rate? I'm a bit puzzled by the price rise, especially as they don't appear to have changed on Gamezone's own website. If anyone knows of another seller please let me know, as my internet searches came up with nothing!

TBH it's more the fact that the blisters suddenly jumped up in price by 2 GBP (both Wayland and Maelstrom selling at 1 GBP discount). I was previously just picking up the odd blister when I made orders of other stuff, but now the boxsets they sell are by far the cheaper option so I will have to go that route.

Thanks Aurelion, those AoW sculpts are really nice!

I hope no-one minds me resurrecting this thread, but its a question of a similar nature.

I've found that my Gamezone dwarves fit pretty well alongside the GW ones. My question is, how do Reaper dwarves compare? Has anyone had any experience of using them for their dwarf armies (there are some really nice character models in amongst their range).

Cheers buddy !

Really want to order a couple of the female dwarves, and their is an awesome looking Dwarf Druid with pet badger who I will fit into one of the units somewhere

If anyone else finds this useful, here you can see the Gamezone Dwarves next to a GW one in the form of a Mordheim Dwarf captain (undercoated one with the viking-esque helmet at the front). As you can see they scale really nicely next to one another!

My only concern with the Gamezone Dwarves is the size of their weapons - they are massive, and also look completely unbalanced. So, I've subbed them out for smaller plastic weapons from a GW Empire sprue.
