Would anyone have any issue with this? Using the Contemptor Dreadnought as an Ironclad dreadnought in games that do not allow IA rules? I absolutely love the model, and I believe it is on the same base size, just slightly taller? I was planning on giving him two DCCWs anyways!

Personally that sounds fine. But then I am biased to the fact I love the model and would also like to include it in regular games .

Its about the right size (slightly slimmer, but slightly taller as well) so no real reason you couldnt. Just dont have a mix of them about the place!

I certainly wouldn't have a problem with it.

As in, dont have contemptors as both iron clad and normal dreads - when doing "counts as" it needs to be crystal clear to everyone

It could cause confusion, if you are going to use a Contemptor as an Ironclad make sure all your ironclads are contemptors. *edit on a per game basis of course, no need to ALWAYS play the contemptor as an Ironclad just be consistent in each game.

Hrrm. So it wouldn't be okay to run the Contemptor as one ironclad, then the actual ironclad model for the other? Even if I'm very clear about it?

This isn't a rule question in the sense of "what does the BRB say/mean/imply" as I understand it. It is 100% up to you and your opponent in regular games and 100% up to the TO in tournaments.
I personally would have no issues with a Contemptor pattern Dreadnought being used as a venerable/ironclad/regular in the presence of models designed by GW to fulfill those roles. Now, If they were both painted the same and geared the same but one was venerable and the other was not I would probably ask you to put a slip of paper on the base of one for the duration of the game so as to distinguish them.

I suppose I just wanted peoples opinions if they would allow it in their games. Thanks for your opinions everyone, because of them, I ordered my Contemptor.

Grats. My girlfriend currently has one on order that she intends to use as a Venerable Psyfleman.
It's such a nice model, and rule of cool applies.
I could even see using Contemptors as different varieties of Dreadnought in the same army, so long as adequate conversion was done to render them distinct at a glance.

I'm going to put a chainblade type thing in the palm where the storm bolter would go. I think it should look epic.

That was pretty much my point but you put it more succinctly. I am ordering my contemptor in a week or so, they are great models and using them in a regular game shouldn't be a problem. Mine is going to be a Salamanders Dread, not sure what type yet though...
