quick question on challenges, does the rest of the unit involved in the combat fight? or is it only the characters in the challenge, if so, if 1 slays the other is the combat resolved purely on normal results plus any overkill/wounds caused, or do then the units come and fight?

Not very clear in the rule book so cheers for any help

While the challenge is going on other members of the units fight as well, but they cannot attack the challengers.
Altho if one unit flees that would break up the challenge.

An additional small question, if no challenges are issued, can the characters still direct their attacks at enemy characters if they are in base contact? this seems pretty cheese but nothing in the rules seems to prohibit it.
