I just got two new boxes of Ork Boyz
But I cant deside if I want to give 10 of them shootas or not.
The plus is I get a really nice weapon. The bad sides are that its -1 attacks.
And we all know ork marksmanship

It's actually not -1 attack. The stat line is unmodified. In other words, if they're slugga boys, you can add ANOTHER attack to them, making them have three.
That being said, it's been statistically shown that on average, shoota boyz will get more kills from a shooting phase + assault than slugga boyz would, but slugga boyz would get more kills than a single round of assault than shoota's. Therefore, it really comes down to how you're going to use them. If you're putting them in a Trukk, i'd suggest Slugga's. If you're footslogging, I'd suggest shoota's.

Shootas also go well shooting from battlewagons.
I find deciding between shootas and sluggas is really fine tuning a list. They so similar that after a battle is usually quite hard to decide which one should have been selected.
I would go for shootas for two reasons, 1 you missed estimated the assault range or face genestealers or something you need to shoot, 2 you can use AoBR to pick up sluggas.

Think of shootas as marine bolters with a slighty better chance for damage but no AP5 in all respects.
A boy shooting a marine with a shoota out to 24" (move n shoot) is the same as a marine standing still and shooting out to 24".
On a turn where 30 boyz unload on someone, it's the equivalent of 30 marines trying to snipe that target with bolters.

Only in bulk. 60 shootas shots coming at you is pretty scary.
Plus, theyre not very good against heavy armor (sm).

The way I see it, 90 S4 attacks will kill things dead as well as 120 S4 attacks and you have the utility to shoot decently.
So yeah, they're good.

Choppas or shootas, you really can't go wrong with either. I think shootas are alittle bit better than slugga boyz stats wise, but I like having four attacks on the charge.

Eh, I disagree, VoF (volume of fire) is how you kill marines. Who cares about hitting them with plasma when they hug cover when you have it? Save the points and bring more dakka. Making them rolls saves is how you get it done. 30 boys, 60 shots, 20 hits, 10 wounds, 3 marines die. Reasonable kill rate, especially for the points invested in the squad. 2 rounds of shooting and an assault should kill a full squad. More likely you will get 1 round of shooting, then next round you will move run, waaaagh! and assault to avoid the marines RF range as much as a possible (though they can get it if they really want, not many people put them selves on charge range of orks on purpose).

Yup.
Unless you have AP 3 weapons as standard on your troops (Thousand Sons...) a Shoota, a Bolter and any other S 4 weapon of Ap 4 or above are all the same.
It's only against those who are man enough to ditch the platemail that it makes a difference Volume of fire gets you the kills
Orks are man enough to take the field wearing nothing but a hubcap Only the Kroot have them beat on this IIRC (Grots don't count- too weedy )

The answer is actually really easy, no matter your preference. If you have a box of boyz, build shootaz out of it. If you want sluggas, get 20 AOBR boyz from ebay for half the price of a boyz box.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |

It depends on how you want to play. Generally shoota boys are put on foot so they can fire while getting to combat. Some people also put them in battlewagons to give some shooting support.
Given how there are now some opponents (purifiers) that your boys don't want to get stuck in with, shootas are a bit more attractive of an option now than sluggas used to be.

Thanks for all the help!
