I remember enjoying Starcraft and Brood Wars very much. I'm probably
not going to play pvp. So do you think the game is worth a playthrough on
the merits of its campaign alone?

I did not feel it was worth it, but if you really enjoyed SC and Brood Wars you might like it.

I get the feeling I'm going to want to do a playthrough when the 'entire' campaign is released though.

I liked it, but then I really like Starcraft.

I was a little disappointed that there wasn't a zerg and protoss part of the campaign, though. Apparently there's more being released though? I didn't know that, Kan.

Yeah they are releasing xpacs for Zerg and Protoss campaigns. Heart of the swarm for Zerg and legacy of the void for protoss. I thought that heart of the swarm was supposed to be released a year after wings of liberty, but I guess that didn't happen.

As for the OP's question, I'd say yes, I enjoyed the campaign a lot, I only ever played a few online matches because I prefer dow2.

I wouldn't pay full retail price for it now, but yes, the campaign is definitely worth it. Aside from the great story, it does have lots of throwbacks to StarCraft and Brood War that don't show up in multiplayer, like old units (such as Firebats) showing up for the campaign. I'm also not a fan of the multiplayer, myself (played one or two games, maybe, before I just stopped) but the campaign was worth a playthrough or two.

If you were a fan of the first two games, you'll enjoy this one. I would definitely recommend it for the campaign alone. And hey, if all else fails, Use Map Settings games can become amazingly detailed and fun to play without ever setting foot into the normal online matches.

The campaing is fun, you shouldnt miss it.

For me Multiplayer is fun but less. StarBattle is very good stuff in Multiplayer (you control only one Space Ship, no respawn), so I would recommend you that too.

A strange place

Only played a few missions and jumped right into multiplayer.

First time i've played the game, and they throw me right in to Gold. I was not amused.

I was kind of disappointed in the story. Its worth a playthrough, but its pretty weak when compared to the excellent campaign of the previous game and xpack. Specifically:

Spoiler:
Raynor going back for Kerrigan? Risking everything for her? Did they just forget about what happened in Brood War? Raynor swearing he would kill her one day and now all of a sudden its back to being in love? I dunno, it was weak. This was supposed to be the big revenge thing and they sort of took the balls away from Raynor, who was always my favorite blizzard character. Mengsk's kid showing up out of nowhere was pretty slowed too, it all just felt rushed. It started off really well, but ended kinda crappy.

I thought the story was fun for a play through. But just once. I wouldn't pay more than $20 for the game myself in retrospect (even though I played three ranked games, stopped playing for a year and apparently finished 3rd in my plat division ).

I liked it quite a bit.

If you play it I don't think you'll be disapointed.

I really enjoyed the campaign, although the plot was somewhat weak at times. However, the Zeratul missions made up for any faults in the campaign for me. Especially the last one holy that was the best Starcraft mission ever. But hey I might be biased because Protoss are my favorite
