Okay, so, I've seen wonderful stuff done with the various washes that GW makes, and I myself have attempted using the Badab Black and Devlin Mud washes. My attempts with washes range from 'It's OK....' to 'I like it!'. Mostly I've used Badab Black, and Devlin Mud has been used on a couple things. I've contemplated buying Gryphonne Sepia, or maybe Baal Red....but I've no clue what colors these would work well on or what parts of my models I would use them on.

So, my question to you Dakkanauts and expert painters is this:
What are washes useful for and what colors do the various washes work with?

I would reccomend Gryphonne Sepia, I use it to shade bone coloured things and gold things, also yellow.

I don't use any yellow, although I do like Gold and I am trying to start painting my Tomb Kings...would Sepia work well then as a wash for Skeletons?

Devlan Mud - earthy midtones
Badab Black - anything
Gryphonne Sepia - lighter earth tones (golds, yellows, light browns, etc)
Baal Red - again, earth midtones (that you want to look more red)
Leviathan Purple - Cooler tones (blues, some greens, purple, black, grey: that you want more purple)
Blue (whatever its name) - again, cooler tones (that you want more blue).
Thraka Green - greens (yellow, green, brown, blue range)

This is only my opinion, and my experience. Please correct me if I'm a bit off of correct

HAPPY PAINTING!

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

Over the hills and far away.

I've painted all of my VC skeles with Gryphonnne Sepia.
Basecoat in white, White spray is easiest.
Then just coat them in Gryphonne Sepia till it suits your taste.

It doesnt create the polished bone effect like GW uses for their skeles but it does give them a "recently dug up look". It would look really good on some Tomb Kings.
