Im sure you have all seen something like this, but here it is again. The challenge is to come up with a mean, hard 500 point list. the rules are same as 40k normal, you need 1HQ and 2 troops and from there on just follow normal force organization. I know that kind of screws some armies, but those are the rules. so, any ideas guys/gals?

You might be able to get abaddon and two, five man squads of PM for about 500. That's a ton of T4(5) FNP nastiness. Most of the 500pt battles are almost exclusively CC oriented, and there are very few things in the game that can kill it in close combat. However DE (or anything mobile) would eat you alive if you are playing a standard board size.

This list looks really good. It can move, it can shoot the crap out of infantry, and has some anti-tank. I would take the blasters off of the warriors and put them on the trueborn. The reason being that in objective missions the trueborn are less important and can get close to take the blaster shots. If you risk moving your warriors in close, you may lose your objective grabbers.

Those PMs and Abby will have a hard time getting close enough to fast lists, especially lists with fast skimmers like this DE list, as they can fly right over their heads and stay out of bolter range.

3x 5 Wracks w/ Liquifier
Venom w/ SC

5 Wracks w/ Liquifier

Just the ones I might use. I actually did run something similar to the first one, though I think it was 750 or 1000. I played against BA, and my Razor took down half their army by turn two. Turn four, they were tabled, and the only reason they held on was because of one stupid special char that messed with my Wracks. Even so, it was objectives and all their troops were dead by turn two, so it was a clear victory for me from then on.

I like Self Destruct's list a lot as well, and I would agree with Augustus that the Blasters should be switched.

CCS - 50 points
Vet Squad x2 - 140
Leman Russ BT x2 - 310 points
1x HK missile on LR

Bam, have fun trying to kill two AV 14 tanks in a 500 point game. The Vet squads can just chill in cover, take some potshots, go to ground, and the CCS can order them to get up the next turn. The LR will absolutely wreck most infantry squads or transports at that level, and the HK missile is just here for good measure if something REALLY needs killin'

An entire society spanning thousands of light years worships a dead guy in a golden throne by killing alien races with genetically mutated supersoldiers dressed in bright blue and gold armor.

And they call religions today stupid.

Once any Orks get close to your LR's, they wil go pop due to AV 10. Plus, once in charge range, you have about as much of a chance to hit your own squads than mine with templates on say a 4 X 4 table.

commissar lord, power weapon 80pts

platoon 1
PCS x2 melta 50pts
blob 1 comprised of:
2 infantry squads, 2 meltas, 2 power weapons
140pts

platoon 2
PCS x1 plamagun 45pts

blob 2 comprised of:
2 infantry squads, 2 meltas, 2 power weapons
1 commissar, 1 power weapon
185pts

so obviously put the commissar lord in with the first blob. You could even just keep the lord close enough to make both blobs under his stubborn range. The other possibility it to use Chenkov.
any points saved by trimming the first commissar can be used for more special weapons in the PCS squads. Maybe autocannons and grenade launchers for the PCS

I don't really like it actually, since you've only got 2 Blasters your anti tank fire power isn't nearly spread out enough... Sure you'll absolutely slaughter Tyranids, or really any MC or infantry themed armies but you are going to fall flat on your face against Guard or anybody who can get lots of tanks on the table. I just feel like unless you cram in about 2 Ravagers you just won't have the anti tank to chew through the horrors the Guard can put on the table.

Here check out this list posted by DirtyDan, its one of the scariest 500 points lists I've seen in a while...
DirtyDan wrote:
CCS- 3x melta : Chimera – 135
Vet squad- 3x plasma : Chimera – 170
Vet squad- 3x melta : Chimera – 155
Scout Sentinel- Autocannon – 40

Just brutal amounts of heavy flamers, multilasers, Plasma and Melta- spread throughout the entire army! Once your two blasters go down you will be unable to harm any of these tanks. Which is really scary for that DE list.

I like to think that my usual fair for 500 points is pretty capable as well

(83) Farseer- Doom, Singing Spear
(202) 10 Storm Gu- 2 Flamers : Wave Serpent- tl Shuri Cannon, Extra Shuri Cannon
(134) 3 Gu Bikes + Warlock- Cannon, Singing Spear, Destructor
(40) War Walker- 2 Shuri Cannon
(40) War Walker- 2 Shuri Cannon

Even this list has a good chance of stopping your blasters before too much harm is done- and 21 s6 shots is not fun for a DE list

Also just for fun because people aren't giving 'nids enough love...

[195] Tervigon- Catalyst, Adrenal Glands, Toxin Sacs
[50] Hive Guard
[60] 12 Gaunts
[195] Tervigon- Catalyst, Adrenal Glands, Toxin Sacs

Sure it would get wasted by that DE list, but really otherwise should be able to do OK.

Ohh I like this one...

HQ: CCS w/Lascannon, 2 Snipers, Camo Cloaks 100pts

Troops: Veterans 70pts

Troops: Veterans 70pts

Fast: Vendetta 130pts

Fast: Vendetta 130pts

Yeah two freaking vendettas. Thats 6 (7with successfull order) Twin-Linked Lascannons a turn. Not to mention the snipers, which can surprise and have always done well for me. Then I have two veteran squads that can put down alot of fire at a decent BS. If you are mech heavy like the DE then I put them in the vendettas till I have the edge. The CCS sits in a ruin with a good view, or any area terrain, and benefits from a 3+ cover save.
