Hey everyone, its crazy how many warmahordes "new player" threads there are going around. Also new players in my area.

So I thought I'd jump on the wagon after getting a good look at the models ( and a friend convincing me to give it a shot) . There amazing, so many I just want to own and build/paint.

To start I play 40k, and I play Space wolves. I do very well with them, I honestly don't think I've ever lost and only had draws ( besides the wins). I also don't think this is because I'm good at 40k or awsomesauce. I've owned IG, Blood Angels, Orks, Tau, and CSM. With all these other armies I have a losing record and I'm talking 8 chimera 18 meltagun 7 autocannon I hate your guts IG.

Its because of how good a fit the army is to how my brain works. The Wolves fit my style, they cut my jib. I play a heavily armed, heavily armoured army that pounces when you least expect it. ( IG don't pounce)

Enough about 40k. ( and my inflated SW ego )

At first I was lead to Cryx.

Those models are worth owning just to have on display.

Then I saw the Irusk epic warcaster model, that pretty much sealed the deal for me. I'm playing Khador and luckily for me I think and hope they suit my style.

I have no idea what any of the rules mean yet, but I bought the book and reading has lead me to Strakhov. I;m splitting the 2 player battle box with another new player and I figure the jacks from that should do for now. So if my FLGS can get lucky and get me Strakhov and a unit of widowmakers plus a war dog my start would look like this:

Kommander Strakhov
Destroyer
Juggernaught
Widowmakers
War dog

15 points

Keep in mind I have no idea how things work, I'm making judgements on models and descriptions. Plus from what I understand Widowmakers will be my bread and butter. An expierenced player also told me I should get a spriggan in the future, I get it from the most basic point of view but is it really that good with Strakhov?

It will answer alot of your questions.

As to factions I think you made a good choice. The good news is it is not too hard to expand into a new faction should you change your mind after you learn the game.

For units it is hard to go wrong with Widowmakers and war dog. Alot of lists use those. Khador has some really good infantry and some good jacks. But for 15 points I think you got a good list to learn with. As you play you will figure out what more you need. I suggest expanding slowly to 25 points then up to 35. Learn each new unit as you add it in.

Take the tips on BC with a huge grain of salt though. Everything is the best/most powerful/unstoppable thing EVAR!!!11!!!ONE

The Spriggan and Beast 09 are both really strong with Strakhov. Which you take, comes down to personal preference. Some like thresher, some like bulldoze.

A word of warning from a fellow Czarist Imperial superpower:

Khador is not a warjack faction.

The first thing you see when you open the book is all those glorious armored death machines. The second thing that you see is that generally there is 1 uber death machine for every 20 or 30 infantry models.

And that is a pretty accurate representation of most Khadoran force comps; a couple guys can run more than 2 warjacks, but most warcasters will run between 1-3 and guys like Irusk probably max out at 2 and tend to only run one (like Behemoth).

The reasons are many but they boil down to:

Khadoran jacks are focus hogs
Khadoran jack buffing spells/feats are mostly battlegroup-centric
Khadoran casters don't sport huge Focus pools on average/have to split between fueling jacks and supporting infantry

The shining star in Khador is its infantry and solos. Khador has massively powerful infantry and some seriously scary solos.

Strakhov is a very good caster and given the jacks you have you are good to go.

The Spriggan or Beast 09 go well with Strakhov because they have reach (the only two Khador jacks that currently have reach) this means they have two more inches of threat range. It is important because on Strakhov's feat turn if the jack and target are in Strakhov's control area you have a total threat range of 13" (Spd 4" + Charge 3"+ Reach 2"+ Feat Bonus 4") or 15" if the jack has superiority (Superiority adds 2 to the Jack's speed stat) on it.

Later you as you expand your forces to 25 you may (I know I am going to give it a whirl) want to pick up the Merc Wishnailer (wrong spelling but I don't do well with Iosian). He will allow you to upkeep one spell (probably Superiority) for free. Free focus for a caster is gravy... the other abilities he offers are a bit meh for Strakhov but a free upkeep is pretty sweet.

Widowmakers are a solid unit that go well with Strakhov. As you look for a melee unit I would recommend Great Bears. Many people will recommend Winter Guard with Joe later too... It is a great unit and the backbone for many good lists but I just don't like the figures myself. I prefer the Bears and a nice unit of Iron Fang Pikemen with UA with Strakhov.

Finally never overlook Manhunters and maybe Yuri with Strakhov. On his feat manhunters with yuri have some great threat ranges and treewalker allows you to ignore woods when determining LOS to target for charges.

WGDS and Joe aren't that useful with Strakhov. They're a slow-moving shotgun-spewing deathstar and Strakhov is a fast blitzkrieg/assassination caster.

If your interests lie along Strakhov/eIrusk I'd recommend Iron Fang pikemen with Unit Attachment.

If you see yourself taking any of the Iron Flesh casters (pButch, pIrusk, eSorscha, Old Witch), then WGDS and Joe are a darn good investment.
