Played a game against a tyranids army and got completely destroyed. What do ya think of this list, i know it needs to change

Librarian - Jump Pack, Blood Lance and Unleash Rage (125 pts)

Sanguniary Priest - Jump Pack, Infernus Pistol (105)

Furioso Dreadnought - Drop Pod w/deathwind missle launcher (195)

Assault Squad (5 man) - Meltagun, Power Fist (135)

Assault Squad (5 man) - Meltagun, Power Fist (135)

Death Company (5 man) - Jump Packs, Plasma Pistol (190)

Sqout Squad (5 man) - Sniper rifles (75)

Vanguard Veterans (5 man) - Jump Packs, Power Fist, Lightning Claw (190)

Baal Predator - TL Assault Canon, Heavy Bolter sponsons (160)

Devastator Squad (5 man) - Razorback, Heavy Bolter, 2 missle launchers, plasma canon (190)

I put the librarian with 1 assault squad, the priest with the other assault squad, use the scouts to hold objectives, deploy the devastators behind the razorback for cover. Drop pod my dreadnought to get into the mix, and DOA the assault squads, death company and veterans. But... I got killed. I have a stormraven, a 5 man terminator squad, 5 more sqouts, a tac squad and a land speeder typhoon i am not using that I could switch out for. I also have 5 more assault men I can use. Anyone got any ideas on how to fix up this list, I am thinking take out the death company and making them regular assault squad to free up points, I dunno. Thanks for any help

"AM are bunch of half human-half robot monkeys who keep tech working by punching it with a wrench And their tech is so sophisticated that you could never get it wrapped it out" thing a LITTLE to seriously. It also goes "Tau tech is so awesome I wish I was Tau and not some stupid Human" thing.

The main problem is that you have a hybrid list, that is, a list that mixes Jump Infantry with tanks. These generally do not do well.

As for fixes, you can't field a top tier army with the models you have. You need to be able to take lots of whatever the theme of your list is, and you simply don't have the models.

What you probably need to do is bulk up on Assault Marines and Devastators or Vanguard Veterans. Something like this:

HQ: Librarian with JP 125
HQ: Honor Guard with JPs, 4 Meltaguns and 4 Flamers 225 (Yes, this is legal)
EL: 1 Sanguinary Priest with JPs 75
TR: 10 Assault Marines, 2 Meltaguns, Power Fist 235
TR: 10 Assault Marines, 2 Meltaguns, Power Fist 235
TR: 10 Assault Marines, 2 Flamers, Lightning Claw or Power Weapon 215
HS: 5 Devastators with 4 Missile Launchers 130
HS: 5 Devastators with 4 Missile Launchers 130
HS: 5 Devastators with 4 Missile Launchers 130

You can use the DC Marines you have as Assault Marines. You'd need to buy 2 boxes of Assault Marines, 2 boxes of Devastators and whatever you need to make the Honor Guard. You'd also need to get more Missile Launchers, which should be available from third party companies. If you're good at converting you may be able to use those otherwise worthless Tactical Marines for something here.

By the way, you have your points wrong in several places. A Baal Predator with HB sponsons is 145, a Sanguinary Priest with JP and Infernus Pistol is 90. I'm not sure what a Deathwind armed Drop Pod costs, but a Furioso is 125 and I'm pretty sure the Deathwind pod isn't 70.

I different view to the above. Being a hybrid list is why it will not work against most opponents here I think it could work having a mix.
If you care about this one enemy I would go for long range so bring in raven, typhoon and more scouts.

Using assault troops to tackle bugs is hard. You land to fire gun but then in assault range, so you think it will better to assault. In assault you die as that is the one thing the nids can do, yes they have hive guard and venom cannons but just forget them for now.

I think you only mistake was to meet them head on. You want to hang back, stop playing like an ork and trying to engage the enemy. You have enough fire power to break them down first. Do assault them especially if a squad has red thirst but that should be on the third turn once you have had two rounds of fire into them, unless he has wings.
No drop podding, DoA or scout move towards the enemy.

This means drop the DC and drop the drop pod empty or drop it completely.

The usual go for the monsters first as without them the horde is useless. Go for the horde first as without them the monsters are useless.

I can see where you've gone wrong. You've got a single Drop Pod with a assualt Dreadnought inside. This will come down, unsupported and be shot at before it can even assault. Then you have small units on foot which won't last 5 minutes in assault even with feel no pain, all thanks to Tyranids numbers. Add in the Baal which the Tyranid player will believe is a threat and that will go down quickly. In a nutshell mate your army is mish-mash and I'm not surprised you lost, I don't mean that in a nasty way btw!

You're best going a single way, mech or jump and in your case it's jump. Bulk those Assault Squads up to 10 per unit, add in more Priests and Devastators. Here's a list:

Librarian - jump pack, shield of sanguinus & unleash rage

2 x Sanguinary Priests - jump packs

10 x Assault Marines - 2 x meltaguns - sgt w/ power fist
10 x Assault Marines - 2 x meltaguns - sgt w/ power fist
10 x Assault Marines - 2 x flamers - sgt w/ power weapon
5 x Scouts - sniper rifles & camo cloaks

5 x Devastators - 4 x missile launchers
5 x Devastators - 4 x missile launchers

Now you've got more infantry, Librarians to make your Marines hit better in assault and survive better, Sanguinary Priests to make Marines hit harder in assault and survive longer, meltas for anti tank and slagging monstrous creatures and missile launchers for long range fire power.

I know this is a hybrid list, but my thoughts were... He only really has 3 units that can shoot. 2 units of 3 hive guard and a unit of 13 gargoyle brood. Soooo if i get first turn I deploy my razorback, devastators behind the razor in cover, baal predator, drop pod w/ deathwind missle launcher, with the dread in it . That means i can shoot with my devis, razorback, dreadnought, and ball pred first turn, and then on my opponents first turn he technically has 5 targets, with only 3 shooting units. And the gargoyles have fleshborers S4 A1, which i'm not too worried about. And then the next turn I come in DOA , am already in his face with dreadnought. Seems like it would work. But it didn't so I will take all your advice. Maybe I'll hang back for a couple rounds to soften them up more.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also I could switch the death company to assault squad and add a speeder with typhoon to have more mek and shooty and scoring troops.

What else did he have aside from Hive Guard and Gargoyles?

Gargoyles are typically used as a screen for something nastier, giving it a mobile cover save. Pepper them with frag missiles and they won't last long.
Hive Guard are best countered by assault cannons, but if you can't get a clear shot on them then tie them up in melee with a squad that has a powerfist.

Beyond that, the best thing I can recommend is to not mix up weapons in a Devastator squad (this applies against anyone). BA can't split fire with them, so you want to focus on one thing and do it efficiently.
Either take all heavy bolters and go anti-infantry, take plasma/lascannon and hunt MC's, or take missile launchers and do both.
As a nid player, there's nothing I hate seeing more than a mass of S8 AP3 weapons arrayed against my T6 Sv3+ horde.

Xttz you were right, he was sheilding a shrike brood with dual bonesword. he also has a trygon prime, and 2 venomthropes with a tyranid prime. some genestealers and hormagaunts. He spans them out all centered around his venomthropes for the 5+ cover save and wicked defensive grenades causing me to take dangerous terrain tests to assault.

In that case I'd take all missile launchers, and try to squeeze in the storm raven rather than the vanguard vets.

I get the impression he's pretty light on Synapse. If that's the case then taking out the Shrikes + Trygon soon will cause him some major issues.
Krak missiles will ID the shrikes - it's up to you if you want to play it safe and take out their gargoyle screen with frag missiles first, or just cross your fingers and hope he fails his cover saves so you can nail them early.

Snipers and anything AP3 or better will eat up the Trygon (hello Bloodstrikes). Finish off with a meltagun/powerfist charge.

Venomthropes are fairly weak and rely on their own medicore cover save. Heavy bolters will make short work of them.

The dreadnought makes an excellent tarpit for the guants/stealers as they can't hurt him (short of a lucky Rend). Keep him away from the Trygon though.

So long as you don't assault anything covered by Venomthropes you should do much better.
