Subject: Dismantled SM Chapters. What's happen to the survivors?
|
 |
Infiltrating Broodlord

Hi all.
For the fist time I started a serious modelling project on a marines army that will use the BA codex.
I don't particulary like the BA background and the second founding chapters alike.
Besides, I would really like to build up something at least aesthetically differrent and original.
So.. the question.
What's happen to the survivor marines of a chapter that reduced to a very short number of elements must be dismantled?
Are they re-assigned to the "progenitor" chapter? Are they redirected to the Death Guard or something similar?
I would like, in some therms, to build up a "survivors" chapter, Eventually at the orders of the Inquisition (just for aesthetical iconography) that will quitely fit the "vengeance" flavour proper to the BA codex I will use.
Something that consequentely represent the special rules like Red Thirst etc.
Any idea?
Any background quote?
Thank you in avance.
Ivan

I think they fight to the bitter end until the chapter fades to history.
Search for Lamenters, Scythes of the Emperor and Celestial Lions.
The first two got pretty much devastated by Hive Fleet Leviathan although the Scythes fared better and appear to have been rebuilding.
The Celestial Lions got done over in the 3rd Armageddon War.
Only ninety six brothers of the Celestial Lions survived, and even worse, the last of the Chapter's Apothecaries took a bullet in the head within hours of arriving at Hive Volcanus.
The gene seed of the fallen now lies unharvested on the battlefields of Armageddon and the surviving battle brothers have all sworn to die alongside them, fighting the Orks until the last breath has been crushed from their bodies.

I like your idea. Run with it. I'd totally play against it, and be stoked for the opportunity.

I could swear there was a chapter that ran away to rebuild, but I can't remember which. Anybody got any ideas?

Crimson fists are still alive Coolyo294.
If memory serves some are sent off to help train new chapters. :Astral Knight survivors
But most die until the last man. Example Blood ravens Celestial Lions.

I meant that the Crimson Fists are rebuilding, not that they had been wiped out.

I gotta say, I like the idea of a survivor Chapter. It sounds pretty interesting. A chapter made of nearly every gene-seed available that isn't chaos? Awwww yeah.

Well, if I were in charge, I'd send them off to fight as auxiliaries for the Guard, join the Deathwatch, or something similar.

No need to waste perfectly good marines. These few survivors, if otherwise loyal, could well be asked to provide the trainers and leaders for a newly founded chapter of the same geneseed stock. It would potentially make them worth much more than the last stand they'd otherwise make, and their old chapter would be honored in the teachings of their inheritors.
I Imagine a fresh chapter with a few grizzled veteran leaders, a thousand fresh-faced marines and a second company named after the old chapter.
edit: add in the scout sergeant grumbling about how soft new recruits are, the laconic teacher of heavy weapons who only accepts total devastation and the slightly confused dreadnought calling marines by names from days gone by.

Thank you guys The idea of a reassigned little number of Marines sent to train recruits and neophites sounds quite good in fact. Not exactly what I had in my mind but one more idea in the basket. In fact, most of you wouldn't certainly be surprised by the originality, I was looking at a sort of Death Guard army that has been composed of the various Lone Wolves, survivors of different marines chapters etc. Obviously, game-rules wise, this wouldn't particulary touch the unit compositions etc etc, but fluff wise and most of all, aesthetically wise, this will open a huge number of modelling possibilities. By the way, just to add a little more of info to the basket, may someone of you link me a/some source of info about the Death Guard? tipical units composition, famous characters, warfare styles etc..

My bad, I put the Scythes and Lamenters as being eaten by Leviathan.

I'm not saying it can't be done, but every fluff example we have of a chapter on the brink shows them fighting to the last man. I could possibly see them becoming the training cadre for a new chapter, but the founding of a new chapter is an awfully rare occurrence.
The other alternative that's supported by fluff is the Deathwatch - they still have the Black Shields or whatever they're called, correct?
