We do help out other events whenever possible. By teaming up with other clubs, we are able to help build better gaming centers in our own areas as well as spreading a good example for the new members to the hobby. The Adventurer's Guild in Harrisburg, Berks Warhammer Club, The Colonial
GT, Battle at Blob's Park, Showcase Comics and others have worked together to help each others events. Each event has its own set of perks and we are able to help each other have diverse events so there is bound to be something for every gamer out there.
Our ticket price on its own is expensive, but we try and keep the total price for the weekend at or below where other large events are and offer a different experience. We focus on more of the hobby and showing off great armies on great tables and terrain and less on the very competitive game play. There are other great events out there that players can find hard core gaming and if you search around you will find the events that are the right fit for you.
The
40K GT ticket is $125 and hotel rooms are at a discount rate of $89 a night for a king or two double beds (so you can split a room). That adds up to around $325 for the weekend including tax if you do not share a room or around $225 if you do share. The hotel and convention area are attached and parking is free.
We have water, coffee and tea available for free to convention attendees.
The hotel offers concessions in the Grand Tournament room. Pizza slices and hot dogs are a dollar each. Not the best food but it is cheap and right in the room. The hotel restaurant is quite good and reasonably priced. Many attendees raved about the quality last year. West Chester is also a big college town and you can find tons of take out or eat in restaurants and bars and there is a local cab company you can work with so you can get back to the hotel safely.
There is a bar in the Grand Tournament room and you can get a beer for just a few bucks as well as mixed drinks for a reasonable price.
We have sideboards on the
GT tables so you have a spot for your army display as well as the long table edges having a 6" space for your food/beverages/casualties/dice. This eats up a lot of floorspace but make a huge difference in relaxing and enjoying your games.
We also have a floorplan that allows accessiblilty, both for gamers to have elbow room and space to carry around their armies as well as providing unrestricted access to those players who require it. Once again, this eats up a lot of floor space but we feel it is an essential part that is often overlooked.
A new venue is always a topic of discussion, and if we find a suitable location that can offer all of the above we will give is serious thought. For now, we have a local place that accommodates our needs and seems to be a good fit for our plans.
We are really looking forward to this year. There are even more clubs involved both in playing and running games as well as more great support for manufacturers and retailers. This will be a blast and once again - Daylight Savings Time! The longest gaming weekend of the year!
