Can this move be used at the beginning of the first assault phase. For example my seer council charged the C'tan and he immediately used Misdirect. Is this correct?

Sounds like the Gist of it. He has the oppurtunity to back out of combat 2D6" IIRC

I am pretty sure that Misdirect can only be used in one Assault Phase (and I am pretty sure it is the opponent's). So if he assaults you, he's stuck, but if you assault him he can bail.

Misdirect is used in the Enemy's Assault phase allowing the Deceiver to pull out of CC before any blows are struck.
