Subject: aquired a small eldar army... how in the world to use em

I've been reading up on eldar tactica today, ready the one on dakka dakka
http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Eldar_Tactica
and several others... but i've only played against them a handful of times and never played as them (they seemed very powerful but most unforgiving thing I'd ever seen on a table)
the models I have
1 avatar
2 farseer
5 fire dragons
5 jet bikes
10 guardians
10 harliquins
1 wraithlord
I can proxy anything with the croup I play in, we're pretty lax esp when trying out new armies
I bought the codex so don't need points or anything, just need advise on a direction to go with the models I have as to hwo they'd function together
I currently have them pinned and glue drying as they mostly metal and the bikes, wrathlord and avatar all needed repair.
another side question with them... my avatar and wraithlord have square bases, they are quite old models from my understanding, first release, woudl the square bases be accurate and the base they came with? if so cool I'll keep it as a retro feel if not then I need to get proper circular bas for them if they didn't origionally come with square bases
*edit* topic less abusive soundign towards models

I was expecting this to be about you smashing someone's eldar army on accident because you didn't tie your shoes. I am sadly disappoint.

For a Footdar army, get more Guardians. Put them with your Wraithlord and Avatar, and stomp your way down the table.
You might want another jetbike, to make a pair of squads of 3. Used them to run to the objective in turn 5.
The Farseers should go in any army. Use one if you use the Avatar, to Fortune it.
The Fire Dragons will need a ride, so get a Wave Serpent, if you're going Mechdar. If you go that way, leave the Avatar and Wraithlord behind, and get Dire Avengers.

for footdar from what I've seen would wraithguard be a good addition?
I really liek the wraithlord model, might get a few more depending how they play. might proxy in a few dreds for them to ry running 3 and the avatar with eldrad
guardian units attached to creatures and a couple groups of wraithguard.

Nice starting force, also saw how much you paid for it in another thread and you're a very lucky guy!!!
Wraithguard are pricey both in points and monetary costs, even 2nd hand they go very highly priced :(. You could proxy them as you said your group doesn't mind that and see how they go for you. Would try for the the full 10 as a troops choice if you do probably and set out for and objective and not deviate from getting it.
Another wraithlord will serve you well in footdar, war walkers also an effective heavy support slot option.
Personal approach to footdar for me is at least 5 slots of troops as eldar do die in droves. One is always 6 jetbikes as players round here take them seriously and actually shoot at them.
Other options are guardians, pathfinders for a home objective in cover and dire avangers as the bladestorm into a doomed unit is nice plus they have more than a 12" range.
Guardians, since the shuriken catapult has a pathetic range and they're going to see assaults no matter what I usually got with storm guardians, meltas/flamer or 2 flamers and a destructor lock and march up with the avatar.
You also have 2 nice elite units too, should try to fit them in also .

yea, not a bad deal all that was 50 bucks.
I don't mind buying more models, the eldar look really cool and the avatar looks liek he's be just plain cool painted up... though I left off his hair piece, I've never really liked the look of it
I have alot of deffkoptas (21) so minus the blades I could have alot of jet bieks. I'm going to experiment around to see what works. btu I'll try footdar first.
like the idea of mixing the two, a few fast troops, and some fortuned elites rolling up . but having never played as them I'm mostly excited to se ehow each unit preforms, its one thing to look good on paper, its another to actually pull out results
question though maybe I'll have to post pics in the modeling but anybody know if avatar or wraithlors origionally came with square bases?

Yep they used to, they're all on round ones now, still need to rebase a few things of mine like the WW's. The avatar I think is supposed to be on one the same size as a warboss, at least thats what mine has. Wraithlord dreadnought sized base.

thanks well as long as its the base they came with I might stick with it, kind of a retro feel... at least until i get wraithlords, then I'll do the base for uniformity but migh tkeep the square one on the avatar as a throwback touch, if its the base that came with the mini its still legal

turns out I was wrong on the models a bit; and the count (was going by the article not what I had laid out, was more concerned abotu getting the bikers, wraithlord and avatar back together, along with bending the various blades back to looking nice) I have HQ 1 Avatar the farseer is eldrad Elites I have some issues in elites in that I have... 4 groups 5 banshees w/ exarch 12 fir dragons 2 with fire pikes and 2 exarchs on top of that so possily 2 groups of 6firedragons and an exarch the coolest part... 10 harliquins.... 7 regularrs, 1 deathjester, 1 troop master and a shadowseer troops 5 jet bikes one converted to have a warlock 15 guardians 2 modeled with bright lances and a warlock heavy wraith lord modeled with a bright lance and a missle launcher so that was my little $50 craigs list army granted it took all day to figure out models and pin the metal ones to get them put back together, but I am very happy about how my dollar went. thinking 2 fire prisms or 2 more wraithlords next and depending on the troops i like more guardians or small jet bike groups. judging by prices I might do the ork thing and try to de-S&M dark eldar bikes though they seem much cheaper

For that price you did well, but the minis are kind of in the middle of being footdar or mechdar. Its all footdar except the fire dragons and the bikes. You'll first have to decide what you want and develop from there.
Fire dragons MUST have a ride as they are a high priority target. If you put all that stuff on the table as is, your FD's will die early, then the banshees because of their low numbers.
Eldrad in with the harlies benefits from shroud which can be good. But first decide which flavour of Eldar you want to build.

yea, played 2 games with them. proxied 1 deffcopta as a jet bike in and 2 dreds as wraithlords... wraithlords did not impress, they are toughness 8, but just die to fie... granted I was playing tau so railguns were hurting, vs SM it will probably go much better.
the fire dragons would definatly benefit from a vehicle, they are pretty slow, and range is exrtemely liomited, i dodn't even field the banshees I'll do tha tin the weeks to come. likely proxy in soem sistes of battle to shore up thier numbers and try a squad of them
overall eldrad probably did the most dmg he marched up with the guardians, his midwar and storm are nice once up close.
I thnk I liked having bikes in with foot dar, they jetted around and soaked up alot of fir eonce I hit one unit the shining spear to appear to be a threa tthen turbobooted around drawing fire. might keep them for both footdar and mech eldar.
without a trandport it'll be a while before I even attempt to field the fire dragons lost almots all of them save one lucky firepiker who refused to fail cover saves.
wha tmodels woudl you reccomend to keep up a footdar army. and in footdar woudl there be a place for fire prisms to support from the back? basically I'm ok with putting about another $300 in the army max for now. I'll try to strecth that as much as possible on ebay with used models, dakkadakka swap shop and craigslist. like I have with my orks and space marines thus far (managed 4 rhinos not long ago for 5 bucks each plus 7 shipping just had to keep looking for the right auction, the poster had mispelled rhino as rino so no other bids )
any advisece on what to buy for footdar appreciated. though I was sad how they did in close combat >_< even vs tau guardians weren't very effective.. though the harliquns chewed through stuff pretty well

great footdar stuff:
Avatar (find used metal ones on ebay, I just saw what GW are now asking for what used to be an £8 model)
More jetbikes
DA's
Rangers (pathfinders)
I still like storm guardians with a destructor lock and spear walking up with the avatar...
Scorpions
Harliquins
Banshees with storm guardian cover
Warp spiders
The WL's are going to take crazy fire as they are your "big" ranged threat, the prisms will take as much fire as well. T8 model or the AV with holofields, again would see about proxying and try each against differing armies, see what you prefer for all comers.
6 scatter laser war walker squadron, always great fun!
