I want to start collecting necrons, but I can't come up with a good army list. Multiple web searches come up with a number of things:

Many necrons are a good idea to prevent phasing out
Monoliths are a good buy
Most units are either fast or slow
Phalanx formations work well
Ressurection orbs are good

I like the phalanx idea, teamed up with fast units like scarab swarms and destroyers.

Can anyone write a good list for me, I would like something consisting of:

Necrons
A lord
A monolith
Destroyers
Heavy destroyers
Scarab swarms
Immortals

Well, you're a bit early in starting them. Necrons are supposedly getting redone in a month or so.
It's better to wait and see instead of going ahead and buying units that may be obsolete.

Do you know any official dates of when they will come out? I've been looking at a lot of places and no one knows for sure. This is in part of GW legal battles wit the whole Eldar/Tyranids thing. They have changed the launch dates of the necrons and no one knows (that i've found anyway).

In general, Monoliths and Destroyers are a pretty safe bet.

I'd wait. New codex means new ways to build the same old spam lists that everyone else uses.

Late October. For some reason, the 22nd sticks out prominently in my mind.

Whether you wait a month or 3 it will still be worth while to see what the new codex says. You could go hog wild on a unit that may or may not be good or even exist.

This. I'd suggest, if you really can't wait, starting a small bit of another army, and see how you like that until Necrons come out.

A great article there monster rain. I'll wait for the new codex, in the meantime I'm collecting tau...
