Just wondering what chapter master is more often in campaigns instead of in their chapters fortress? Also who do you think would be the most fearsome charging into battle.

Only one thing is certain in the world of 40k and that one thing is... When the Emperor is reborn he will never have to use the bathroom again!

From what I believe chapter masters didn't get their position from voting, they were out fighting and proved themselves before the chapter. So I would assume most chapter masters are out fighting and not just laying around in a fort somewhere....

and for the most scary to see charging at you.....

Gabriel Angelos.......just because he's my favorite

and he has a Thunder Hammer called God-Splitter......

I know the whole voting thing doesn't happen and to become a cm you have to be a total bad*ss in battle. Yet I have to say Dante is the most fearsome because of his years and the Armageddon campaign. Plus he thinks he will have an epic role like Sangy himself.

Helbrecht of the Black Templars is always fighting. It goes with the BT beliefs, and I think that he would be the most fearsome.

Iron Hands don't even have a Chapter Master, because they go that hard.

How could you not have a cm to well organize your chapter or do they have a ruling body.

Chapter Masters will lend their expertise to the most important campaign going on at the time. When they aren't on the ground, they're usually dictating over the Chapter from a Battle Barge or similar command center. They are the head of the Chapter's war council.
Depending on the Chapter, they might also take some time to personally govern over their home world or empire.

The Iron Hands don't have a Chapter Master, preferring instead to operate at the council level instead. I think this might be in remembrance of their murdered Primarch, personally.

The current Space Marine codex names a Chapter Master, though, and Codex: Eye of Terror mentions petitioning the Chapter Master for aid, so it's possible they might elect a temporary head of the Chapter when necessary.

Yeh, it really depends on how invested they are in the campaign. Chapter Masters aren't just warriors, they rule over their home worlds and do a great deal of decision making outside of battle.

Armageddon brought out a lot of the Chapter Masters, namely Dante, Helbrecht and Tu'Shan. The Salamanders had a great majority of their Chapter deployed on Armageddon. Some sources a full 7 companies were deployed in the Third War, other say only 6 (Salamanders only have 7 companies, 1 being a scout company)

1 Veteran Company, five Battle Companies, two Reserve Companies, and a Scout Company.

Anyway, Tu'Shan immediately leaps to mind, since I know he spent all of the War For Armageddon cracking (not necessarily Orkish) heads. With his pair of Thunder Hammers.

But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

North of your position

The Flesh Tearers master, Gabriel Seth, and the BA Dante, and the Angels Encarmine one because he cannot rest.

I second Gabriel Seth. He forces his chapter and himself to be on the battlefield first and more often just to slightly mitigate the rage and blood lust of his chapter. He never rests because as his chapter dies out he seeks to have it remembered as heroes, instead of savage monsters. He has only so much time before the Flesh Tearers are just a memory, and is constantly fighting to make sure it is a good memory.

Though CM are in charge of the chapter, I don't think they do most of the administrative tasks associated with such a leadership position. There are numerous non-marine members of a chapter that handle most of the day to day stuff. The CM is a battle commander. They handle some of the big administrative decisions, but leave most of those tasks to non-marine resources.
