Yo, first post and first thread on these forums. Been some helpful stuff on here for me over the last few months so thanks for all the tips and stuff so far

So down to business. Im thinking of making a home made warlord titan. I have a gak ton of polystyrene blocks that im gonna use for the basic shape and modules of the titan, but i know i need some nice plasticard for the armour plates etc. Ive seen this listing on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/220741684004?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_500wt_1180

Its 6 sheets of the .10mm stuff. My question is, is that stuff too thin for making the massive armour plates of the titan. Ive never worked with plasticard before so this if gonna be a big project for me. Im out of work now so have a lot more time to spend on my 40k hobby.

Any info that you guys could share on large scale plasticard construction would be helpful. Such as the best thickness to use, where to buy the stuff for a reasonable price in the UK, what glues to use to stick the card to the polystyene blocks etc.

Thanks guys.

Oh one other thing, as i recently started up with the hobby after a couple of years of inactivity, i went to the local GW and got some of their paints and brushes. Is it just me or do the current paint pots suck to a high degree?

Would bow to anyone else here who has actually worked on one before, but.

The Tau titan I am currently working on will be of stronger stuff. My current plan is brass tube skeleton, plus hemispheres etc from E.M.A.

Over that, cross-sections of 1mm plasticard (or foam, if I can get it) clad in more 1mm plasticard. The only time I would use 0.1mm would be for armourcladding the beast, but these days, I will probably just use my panel scriber to produce the joins between the plates and save myself the money of cladding almost the entire thing in 0.1mm.

I have used suitably thin stuff already, think it's about 0.1mm as I already had it, for the raised areas on some large Tau symbols. I used this as it goes over the eliptical hemispheres well, all I need to do is a minute amount of filler, and a little tidy-up of the edges as they go slightly out of true going from flat shapes to draping over the hemisphere.

Hope this helps, and great to see another scratch-build titan coming along. Best of luck, and hope to see a build thread.

Its gonna take me a couple of weeks to let all the materials float in. But ill deffinatly keep this thread updated with the Wip pics etc. Cant wait to actually start making it. As to the actual skeleton, im going for thin plastic drainage tubes. They are very sturdy and lightweight. ill clad the skeleton in the shaped blocks of polystyene and then coat them in the plasticard to make a better painting surface. Hopefully it all works out

BTW conrad, where did you get your plasticard from? I live about 30 miles north of you so it wouldnt be that much of a stretch to get it from the place you got yours. Thanks.

hmm found this site

http://www.plasticstockist.com/High-Impact-Polystyrene-Sheet.aspx

says 1 sheet of 1372x660x0.75mm white Hips plasticard for £2.80

Looks like a massive sheet of it to me. 2 of those should be enough to clad the entire Titan in the stuff. Then i can get some of the thinner stuff to do fine detail work i guess.

ok so ive picked up 10 8"x12" .75mm sheets of plasticard and 10 sheets of 8"x12" 1mm. Should hopefully have all the materials by next week so i can start construction.

Here is a pic of the leg support skeleton and pelvis with size comparison. Lion el'jonson is on the left with a standard terminator next to him. Leg assembly is 18 inches atm.

Shin plates cut. The massive bulk load of styrene blocks arrived today, im so happy coz i can finally start chopping up the base parts of the titan. I forgot what a "joy" it is to work with gak crap, little bits get bloody everywhere.

I intend to attack arm and leg armour plates to the base skeleton via copius ammounts of lolly pop sticks, all purpose filler and hard as nails.

Cant wait to start work on the plasticard covering plates.

One of the shin side plates covered in plasticard and bisected to give the impression of armour plates.

Im gonna put a small trim of plasticard around the edge of the large parts and then glue on little hexagonal disks of plasticard rod to show bolts. Still waiting for delivery on the "bolts" though hehe.

Sorry about poor pic quality.

Right Shin front plate assembled. There are some very very small gaps inbetween the plasticard armour plating. Ill be filling these in with all purpose filler and sanding it smooth once the filler has dried.

That plasticard in the ebay ad seems like a good deal, i might have to get some myself.
Looking forward to see more of your results too.

oh, and Conrad, dont mean to rain on your parade, but the Tau dont use Titans, I read that they do not see the need for such things as they can use all their big weapons from the air.
doubt its a problem though, im sure some fluff could me made up to accomodate it.
