Righto. So taking the advice of the community, I scrapped my 1000pt bike army idea and picked up a BA codex. I was pleasantly surprised to see all my wishes for my first army compiled into one book. XD
Anywho. My mates are preparing their lists as we speak, one Ork Kan list and one DE list. We'll probably be going head-to-head pretty soon. To that end, I have two lists and must decide which to work towards. They're both mean-looking, I like the layout of both, so now it's down to just plain tactics vs. my soon-to-be-rivals.
The first list was handed down to me by Aldarionn. It's the heavier, shootier of the two:
Librarian - 100
5 Assault Marines (No Jump Packs, Meltagun, Razorback w/ Lascannon & TL Plasma Gun) - 165
5 Assault Marines (No Jump Packs, Razorback w/ Lascannon & TL Plasma Gun) - 155
5 Assault Marines (No Jump Packs, Razorback w/ Lascannon & TL Plasma Gun) - 155
Baal Predator (TL Assault Cannon, Sponsion Heavy Bolters) - 145
Baal Predator (TL Assault Cannon, Sponsion Heavy Bolters) - 145
Predator (Autocannon, Sponsions Lascannons) - 135
Total 1,000
This list, I imagine, would be my best bet against the Orks. Even with the increased CC ability of the assault teams, I know I'll never beat an Ork squad in pure hand-to-hand. There's more of them, they have more attacks, and my boys are more expensive to lose. The strength of this list is, before I get into combat at all, I imagine I can protect my Razorbacks with the wall of pain my tanks would provide, use smoke to my advantage, and pick on the weakened Ork squads competing with me for objectives. The Kans would probably also be unappreciative of the lascannons being hurled their way. The downside, of course, is that I'm weakened against incoming anti-armor fire, of which Orks aren't particularly lacking. Plus, no room for a priest.
The second list, I put together with advice from my local hobbyists. I've been told it's fairly cookie-cutter for BA:
Librarian - 125
Jump Pack
Priest - 90
Jump Pack
Power weapon
Assault Squad (10) - 240pts
Jump Packs
Meltagun x2
Thunder Hammer
Assault Squad (10) - 240pts
Jump Packs
Meltagun x2
Thunder Hammer
Baal predator - 145
HB Sponsons
Baal predator - 145
HB Sponsons
This list comes with a few benefits; the ability to DS, more firepower going into an assault, the priest to support my squads when possible, and jump pack mobility. It has roughly the same number of anti-armor weapons, and the squads could be split to take on multiple objectives. The downside is, I have less firepower, the anti-armor units need to be positioned much closer than the lascannons of the first list, and there's a greater chance of being overwhelmed by infantry.
Dakka has already helped me a lot, any further advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
