skulking around the internet

I was playing a game the other day, 1500pts Nids vs SM vs SM three way carnage and I was running a Vulkan list. One of the lads told me that 1500 was too small a list to include a named character, and that the threshold for doing so was at 2k. I've done a search on Dakka and come up blank, and had a squizz at the BRB and vanilla codex but i can't find a rule that says anything about it. Is this a rule from a previous edition?(i completely missed 3rd and 4th ed) Or have i missed summat?

edited for spelling

In third edition there were minimum points for the inclusion of some characters. It no longer exists.

Ex-Mantic Rules Committees: Kings of War, Warpath
"The Emperor is obviously not a dictator, he's a couch."
Starbuck: "Why can't we use the starboard launch bays?"
Engineer: "Because it's a gift shop!"

No such rule exists. Get them to show you the actual rule next time, normally shuts them up.

We quite often have little differences of opinion like this, and fortunately they tend to remain civil. The problem is we all have different gaps in our 40k pedigrees and tend to confuse each other over rules that no longer exist or never existed! I seem to remember in 2nd ed(?) Hq units were bought with a percentage of your points total? Been too darn long!

I am going to quote this for it's utter importance on making sure you don't get cheated.

it's called: trust but verify. whats that? I can't use this item? ok I trust you but can you verify that for me so I know where to look next time.

if they can't verify it then they have no argument against it.

You are not free whose liberty is won by the rigour of other, more righteous souls. Your are merely protected. Your freedom is parasitic, you suck the honourable man dry and offer nothing in return. You who have enjoyed freedom, who have done nothing to earn it, your time has come. This time you will stand alone and fight for yourselves. Now you will pay for your freedom in the currency of honest toil and human blood.

While there is no BRB rule, a couple of the oldest codices still have limits: Black Templars and Tau Empire.

Thanks for the responses chaps! I would just like to make it clear that this question arose out of confusion rather than any attempt to cheat! (just in case the lad in question is reading this) Honest mistake and all that...
