Or the 9 people in the country with the winning lists didn't see your post?

The event was a couple of months ago. Hell, I ran one of the finals, and can't remember what the winning armies were, let alone the lists.)

....and lo!.....The Age of Sigmar came to an end when Saint Veetock and his hamster legions smote the false Sigmar and destroyed the bubbleverse and lead the true believers back to the Old World.

if you search this forum about Ard boyz WHFB 2011 you will find like 1-2 threads about it and they dont provide as much info compared to the many 40k Ard Boyz threads.

People get so excited about 40k and about the meta, people even make threads about whos attending and what they are bringing. I might just stick to 40k, WHFB looks like a dying game.

Dakka is more 40k centric, always has been. The Warhammer Forum is a bit more WFB centric. And 40k has been more popular in the US for years and years. Not a surprise really.

Its because of cost and versatility. I was fantasy since 2003. I tried 40k in February of last year and now im a 40k player that occasionally plays fantasy. Armies like daemons and Skaven really run fantasy and there isnt really too much you can do about it so it drives players away.

Yeah I heard 7th Ed really ruined fantasy, which caused an influx of even more new 40k players.

I think 40k probably requires more skill than Fantasy and is alot harder to win competitive tournaments. Therefore I am trying to find out the current metas WHFB especially from the Ard Boyz tourny before I make the decision in investing in a fantasy army.

The whole '7th ruined fantasy' or '8th ruined fantasy' is a long winded debate that depends a lot on where you play, and the nature of the tournament scene in that area. During 7th edition, in the NE US, we had a very strong fantasy prescence, and a high concentration of GT's, even before GW started up the IGT circuit. Crossroads, Colonial, and Conflict GT's combined for the Overlord Crown. Quite a few members of the US ETC team play in those tournaments. And while many people on these boards will scream to high heaven if 'composition' is mentioned, that was a strong part of it, even to a large group of top players forming a Comp Council and scoring comp for many of those GT's. 6th was pretty close to 7th, so it was a long run of pretty solid rules. The problems arose from specific books, especially those in Storm of Chaos. Daemons, Sea Guard, Cult of Slannesh, Slayers.

In 8th you have a big change in rules and a lot of re-adjusting. Big spells, Daemons, and a few net-lists can cause problems with other armies being relegated to baby seal status.

(Oh, remembered the top 3 armies: Daemons, Daemons, Daemons. Next 3 were I think, Skaven, Daemons, Skaven. It's 'ardboyz /shrug.)

Many GT's are responding by putting in some limits on the bigger spells, unit caps, etc. Some stolen from ETC restrictions. Basically looking for a way to play the game and not make it 'ardboyz all the time, and to see more than 4 armies at the top.

I've got a heavily restricted GT coming up in November, that basically tries to toss a spanner into over used combos, spells, and units. It's not for everyone, (especailly Daemon players, as we ban the whole army), but I run a lot of other tournaements the rest of year with no restrictions, and this is just a different way to play the game.

So I'd take a look at your local area, that's going to be the deciding factor for you, much more than looking at 3000pt Daemon lists.

Yeah I know man, 1 stores banned SCs in tournament, others restricts the useage of big spells to 1 per game. These types of rules all affect... *cough* fateweaver lol

If you're interested in the Fantasy tourney scene you should check out the Conflict GT coming up in January and the Colonial (I think April).

We just put on Crossroads GT last month up here in Horseheads NY (thanks Mike for the prize support battlefoam bag). We sold out a few weeks before the event with 80 players, and still had a wait list of around 20 people.

I'm not sure why there isn't a more vocal element, because at these events it seems to be going strong.

If you want to be accurate.. Space Marines ruined fantasy! Since last I heard (years ago) SMs outsold the entire fantasy range
