Hello Dakka, so, do you think that unpainted armies are acceptable?

It's a valid discussion, unfortunately people cant discuss it without bringing their emotions in, which is a shame. People will say that repeating topics is a terrible thing, but this is what happens when the issue doesnt resolve itself of its own momentum. Its obviously something people care about or else it wouldn't come up again, its just too bad people cant do it as adults.

People will jump in and say "ooooh we just did this and here's how its gonna go/flamewarflamewar etc," as they did in the last thread (which by the way had a bunch of excellent, competent and gracious discussions) but what they really mean is "I'm not very good at stating my opinion and I dont want to bother with trying, so instead of ignoring the thread like I should, I'm going to come in here and be negative." I hope this thread stays open, theres plenty discussion to be had about the history and different elements of the Hobby. So lets do it properly, what do you guys say?

Not for me personally. I really hate playing with unpainted miniatures and strive to only bring painted and completed figures to a game. However, I realize that is my own preference and I don't hold others to that standard.

I prefer to play against painted armies because that makes the whole gaming experience richer and ups the level of immersion in the game. But I am a realist. I know how much time painting can take, and as someone who does not like painting I understand how daunting painting an entire army can be. If it weren't for commission painters I would be one of the bare-miniature enthusiasts as well, so I can't justify shunning another player because they lack the resources in either time or funds to get their army painted.

I also understand that tournaments, leagues, and gaming clubs all have standardized rules for participants, and in those instances I have no problem denying someone a chance to play when they don't meet the basic criteria for participation. But, casual play? As long as your models are built then bring it on!

Now, players who don't paint their models but insist on rolling dice at my models or colliding their figures into mine during game play can go feth themselves!

You know that if you don't want to "do this" all you have to do is not post in the thread, right?

No one needs to do anything.

Not posting inflammatory comments stereotyping people who haven't even posted yet would have been a good start...

We just did this. While that's not in itself a bad thing, the behaviour of multiple posters in this thread suggests that it's maybe a little soon to do it again. Next time around, it would be appreciated if people could refrain from posting spam just because they're not interested in joining in a discussion... That way, we won't have to hand out so many warnings.
