I have just started painting my first orc army and am a very amature painter.
I have managed to find a skin tone I like but am having a lot of trouble with my weapons. I see a lot of images posted online of people who go crazy painting blood on their models but thats not something I am interesting in doing.
I have found the odd picture which just looks like a normal metal.. such as chainmail for a basecoat but then seems to have a drybrush or something going towards the edge of the blade that makes it look sharper.
Does anyone have any advice of which colours I should try to use to acomplish this? Or is there a specific method that works better than a simple drybrush?
Do you have 2 grey / silver colours you think would work best to accomplish this? I tried it with Chainmail and Mithril Silver but it didnt seem to do much for me, perhaps the colours are too similar? I dont want it too obvious that it looks rediculous though.
First you have to pick your main color gunmetal or chainmail depending how bright you want it.
As the blade narrow use a shade lighter as a base if gunmetal was used use chainmail, if chainmail use mithral.
feather some dry brushed darker color in a upward direction on the sharper areas to simulate dulling.
Wash with black if you want it dirty or blue if you want it a little sharper or leave it if you happy withe results.
