I have a bunch of friends (10 of us total) that wanted to do a round robin tournament. We were going to be splitting into 2 divisions of 5 players and each division will play their own round robin. It seems like a fun idea but some are wondering what kind of time restrictions we should place on the games. This is a friendly gaming group but we can be somewhat competitive. If we are playing 1,000 point 40k games, would 2 hours be long enough for a single game?

You should be able to complete a 1000 game in about an hour or hour and a half as long as you all know the rules fairly well.

2 hours is enough for a 1500 point game - for 1000 points you shoudlnt need more than about 1 hour 15, 1 hour 30

Sounds like you are organizing a league instead of a tourney.

League with 'divisions' with people playing everyone once is kinda different but a perfectly good way to play.

I would say 1000 points would hardly need more than 1.5 hours.

Yes, two hours should be long enough.

We just had a round robin tourney yesterday. We played 7 games at 1000pts, 1 hour time limit per game. All games finished before time. Fun event for the most part.

Set a time limit, generally I find 1000 to 1500 doesn't need more than 1.5 hours with 15 minutes of setup and terrain discussion. Add time as you add points above that. Also don't be tempted to do single elim...it gets tempting sometimes but people come to play...getting bumped sux.
