I have been reading the Horus heresy books and couldn't help but thinking that they should make a warhammer 30k game. Imagine having a primarch in your army or even the emperor although they would either have to tone them down significantly or else make the points incredibly high. In the same game they could add things like the old ones and the Void dragon c'tan. I'm aware that this game would never be made by anyone sane but it would be brilliant all the same. I would settle for them making models of the primarchs and the emperor.

You can do that in regular Warhammer 40k, just paint your guys up in Pre-Heresy colors.
Altough it would be GODAWESOME if they made any Primarch models...maybe Vulkan or Ferrus...

That would be cool, it would probably work best as an expansions to 40k. You'd have to eliminate many races from being played in that expansion though. It would be awesome if such a thing existed.

GW would never do it (as they’re keeping it as a fallback idea) but it doesn’t mean that it’s not a cool idea. It would probably work best as a self contained expansion where only factions/lists from the expansion book can be used in 30k games. This would be the best way to balance primarchs and zany horus heresy rules without making everything in the book apoc only or worrying about balance. Rulewise, I’d like 30k to function entirely different from 40k rather than being just an expansion with add on pre heresy lists (as one can do this already with homebrew rules). I’d imagine a 30k game to be smaller scale than 40k regular but with a greater emphasis around heroic units (like primarchs), special rules and strategic decisions. Model wise, the best way for GW to approach a pre heresy expansion would be for GW to release conversion kits rather than full blown models for every unit (as it would be cheaper and quicker). Primarchs could be released as single models blisters.

lord kryz, you will be happy to know that at least some of these things already exist!
There are a range of Primarch models you can get, although not made by GW. From here on Dakka...
As for rulesets, you have several options. For more general games (and depending on your gaming group) you can make use of standard codecies with a bit of twiddling. For example, I use the Blood Angels codex for my pre-heresy World Eaters. For more specific special rules, the Tempus Fugitives made a great set of rules for their campaign weekends. Rules for Primarchs, honour guards and more, they are well balanced having been play-tested significantly

There's another version that exists, too. It's called: Friendly 40k Matches.

But yes, at least make a Primarch model. Anyone, I really don't care! Make it Corax or something! Just don't give it rules!
