Subject: From 40k to Fantasy Battles. Help?

So, take this as a rant, or just me getting nastalgic, but I am thinking of getting back into Fantasy battles. It's what I first started painting and building when I was younger and the looks of it is still very appealing, aside from the fact that I'm irate at the fact of just how unbalanced 40k is right now...(...blood angels).
So I want to get back into it, play Wood elves with my Fiancee and have a good ol' time. How is it though? Still the same? Better compared to 40k? Could anyone summarize for me?

I only recently started playing the fantasy version and I prefer it over 40k. It's a lot more balanced and fun imo.

Oh aye, a LOT more balanced and fun haven't heard good things about the wood elves, admittedly, but heh... I'm new to it too, what would I know
I suppose the only way you'd really know if it was 'better' was to try it out... 'cause everyone has different likes and dislikes, so while I may think its better you may not
At the very least it's more balanced and varied than seeing Spehss Muhreens everywhere.

The latest edition of Fantasy is pretty much "Warmaster in Fantasy scale models"
Everything is designed around making a large unit be it wide rank ( horde ) or deep rank ( stead fast )
The augment spells, and characters are all most existing to boost the troops.
Chariots, Ranged units, Calvary all lost their purpose ( now let me explain )
Chariots and Calvary lost their purpose because their devastating charges are made to break the units they charge,
but due to steadfast ( foot troops will out rank cavalry and chariots most of the time ). They simply cannot break it.
Without the initial bonus of charge may it be impact hits or +2 str for lance, they just get grinded down.
Same goes for ranged units, they used to be able to make a difference by removing a rank or so, or cause panic checks.
But now the unit size are so ridiculously large, its like a pin prick at most.
However, we have seen evidence of GW attempting to correct this glaring flaw by buffing the said units, so its not all hopeless.

Well, when I last played Warhammer it was the same way anyway with Calvary. But then again it got me thinking, would you really want to charge anything without lances?

Balance wise...its a bit shaky, Wood elves are in a rut
Their army style isnt very optimized for 8th edition
They rely on bows and skirmishers, very little ranked CC options which will make it very difficult going against big scary units/monsters
Better than 40k? Completely subjective. One thing I do know is that hardcore fantasy fans will usually hate 40k and hardcore 40k fans will usually hate fantasy

I suppose it's a good thing that I love warhammer 40k, yet started with Fantasy, both of which I love.
In my experience playing 40k, I found that it has unbalanced in recent years to an extreme, and I suppose I am trying to find a game less competitive and more fun and balanced.

Balance wise, this edition fixed many many concerns 7th editon had. Now, most units are viable, ecxept may be light cab, all other units are viable. Regarding large blocks vs small blocks, i am sorry to burst every ones bubble, but any given kind of troops that faces 1 large block v 2 smaller ones, will loose combat, go do the math if you dont believe me. It does requiere better execution but that is all.
Wood elves are not realy dessigned for 8th edition and they strugle, but that is all, they are the only army that strugles like that and it is because of their dessigned metagame in 7th. The rest of the armies can fight in 8th edition very competitively.
As to which like most. They are different with different focus.
