I was watching a youtube battle report and i saw some nids take a morale check for being below 50% and ran off the board. I though fearless stopped those checks. can someone explain this to me?

What caused them to take the morale check? (I don't believe just being below 50% is a reason to take the check), and were they within Synapse range? (assuming you are using 'nids' as a generic term, and don't mean Warriors).
|
If you can keep your head, while all about you are losing their's, then you have probably completely misunderstood the situation!

They may not have been within synapse, the report i saw didnt specify, but i dont think they were, but let me change the question a bit, if a squad of my space wolves get shot below 50% will they have to morale and fall back?

If they take 25% casualties they have to take a morale check. Unless they are fearless

That has to do more with regrouping than anything. If your 8 grey hunters got shot to hell and there were 2 left, they would be able to regroup despite the fact they are below 50%. If my guard squad of 10 gets shot until theres 2 left, they run until they can't run no more! (off the edge I mean)
Also, I think ATSKNF means they do not get swept away in combat. They can lose combat, but if they would be caught on the initiative test, they fight instead of flee. I think, could well be wrong

ATSknF allows you to regroup if less than 50%. If they suffer 25% casualties in a single phase (except assault) they must take a morale test. If they fail they fall back, but can regroup as long as all requirements (except greater than 50%) are met. IIRC it ATSknF also prevents you from falling back from assault.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

In my codex under atsknf it says i automatically pass regroup tests, so say i was knocked under 25% and failed my morale i fall back, then i regroup instantly on my next turn?

Ha they can be good, my brother doesn't run a super cheesy army and he does really well. Just persist. Who are your regular opponents? How do you try to tackle them?

Tyranids are my army that i cant beat, there is another guy i play who runs tau but they arent hard at all, And i run a mixed unit, i have a list up in lists of my army, and i usually try and gun down the big guys first then move on to the smallers, but by the time i actually kill the big bugs all the small ones are swarming me. and i field a redeemer and a vindicator but the vindicators range usually screws me.

I've never gotten to play 'nids. Have you posted anything in the tactics forum? I think thats the spot to go if you need a hand beating an army

Space Wolves are very strong against Tyranids with the crazy amount of long-range high strength you can field. What are you usually running in a list and what does the opponent run?

I'll check out the list. Shooting the big ones isn't necessarily the best option. Shoot whatever is the biggest threat to you at a given moment....not what looks the scariest. I play IG and when I'm up against Tyranids my usual first targets are as follows:
1) Hive Guard
2) Zoanthropes
3) Tyrant
4) Genestealers
5) Trygons/Tervigons (about equally)
Basically the first stuff I go after is everything that can hurt my protection (IE vehicles). Trygons and the like I usually ignore until they're right on top of me. At close range I can easily kill two Trygons in one round of shooting....but I have to make sure that stuff stays safe from assault be killing the anti-vehicle guns and units.
That and stuff that supports their army. When the nids get close always keep your vehicles moving at least 6 inches. Use two or three vehicles moving over 6" to block their movement (needed 6s to hit is annoying for them). If you force them to rely on melee to kill your vehicles, they'll be at a HUGE disadvantage. Melee is not a reliable way to kill vehicles unless they have a lot of attacks (like genestealers with rending) or have a lot of attacks and are very strong (Trygons).

You automatically pass the test, and still get to take the test if you are below 50% strength. HOWEVER if an enemy unit is within 6", or you are out of coherency, then you are inelligble to take the test, meaning you cannot automatically pass it.
Not only does ATSKNF let you auto pass this test, you get to move 3" (normal regroup move) and then act as normal that turn - meaning you can move another 6", shoot / run and assault
