Could a Salamanders meltagun straight up tear through a land raiders side armour in the fluff?

Thats what they are for after all.
Not just a Salamanders one either...ANY melta weapon could tear through a Land Raider hull at close range.

Salamander ones aren't actually any more powerful in general, they are just better quality, and probably have better accuracy/efficiency.

I assume that a TH would be able to easily knock one onto its side when wielded by a big guy, even by Salamander standards.

The shockwave from a TH is more for anti-infantry use. The powerfield makes it effective against armor, including vehicles, but the shockwave is unlikely to flip a Landraider. It might slew it around, make it bounce a bit... but an LR is incredibly heavy, it's unlikely to be flipped over by a blow from a Thunderhammer.

Yeah, i doubt it tbh. It MIGHT knock down a dreadnaught if wielded hard enough, but it's not going to move a Raider much.

Hmm, but it could clock a Terminator right well, correct?

The only time a terminator ought to be able to backflip

When clunked with a Thunderhammer/Tankhammer etc

He *might* get up again, due to force sheild'y plotblag, but the impact would still punt him away

If wielded by Vulkan himself, the Primarch not the Forgefather, then yes a TH could flip a LR. There is a HH novel which features Vulkan wading through the Iron Warriors flipping battle tanks bare handed. He was, after Ferrus Manus, the strongest Primarch physically.

Technically, if there's a huge disparity between the target and wielder, shouldn't a Thunder Hammer simply "flip" the object which has the lesser mass? The kinetic energy of the "field explosion" has to go somewhere, and if the target is too heavy to give enough way it'd backfire.

Like placing a shaped charge on a wall ... it's designed to channel the energy forward, but that doesn't mean nothing will come back if the surface is too tough.

That said, it wouldn't by far be the first instance where 40k didn't give a damn on physics, so this thought on realism may be entirely inappropriate. I don't know much about Thunder Hammers, so feel free to correct the above! The TH article on Lexicanum is phrased in a way that makes it sound as if people in Terminator armour would be immune to the effect, but it doesn't mention a source and as such could be simple opinion of the editor.

So long as the weilder dug their feet firmly into the ground they could transfer all energy into the planet/moon and so there would be very little movement of the person, whereas a tank finds it a little harder to dig it's feet into the ground...

Except for those effects called "gravity" and "mass". A 100+ ton tank does not easily flip. For anything. Blame Newton and his laws of inertia.

Well how big is Vulkan? I know my guy Pyri is 7'8'' and about 800 pounds.

Not sure if any specific height is given for Vulkan, but being that he was a Primarch, he is probably 8-10 feet tall, at least. Possibly even larger.

Supposedly the second strongest, not sure that means tallest. I always thought Magnus or Lorgar were the tallest just from descriptions in the HH but the last novel in the series said Vulkan was the second strongest next to Ferrus Manus. Certainly he would have to be one of the bigger Primarchs to be the second strongest.

I always saw Kurze as tallest, but not near strongest. And do you know if Manus' necron hands enhanced his strength, or is that just his being a primarch?

It is mentioned that his special "necron" hands helped out.

Back in the day Magnus was the tallest at 20 feet. Leman Russ was the second tallest at 16 feet but I think these descriptions are terribly outdated. I'm one of those guys that just says "The HH novels never happened. Neither did Episodes 1-3.

Yeah, I think that got retconned to Magnus being like 15 and most being around twelve

Ya, Magnus is still the tallest but I think it is closer to 15. Plus Magnus is able to shift his size using his psychic abilities etc.

Vulkan was the second in strength only to Ferrus? Yet another reason that I love the Salamanders Chapter.

Also, who do you think would be the strongest, Vulkan or Ferrus without his metal hands?

I don't see how metal hands make you stronger... they weren't augmetic or anything, just metal...

Well, someone said above that Ferrus had a some help from his metal hands. I do not know any fluff on Ferrus, so wether this is the case or not...I have no idea.
Any enlightenment would be quite helpful.

I think that his hands werent "just metal." They were Necron living metal from when he drowned a Tomb Stalker, IIRC, in lava... LIKE A BOSS!
