I'm thinking about a 500 point list with something like this in it:

1 Farseer (Guide) + 5 DA + 1 Falcon (Scatter Laser) - 265
5 DA + Wave Serpent (Scatter Laser) - 175
1 War Walker (Scatter Laser/Scatter Laser) OR 1 Vyper Jetbike (Scatter Laser) - 60
Total: 500

My main question is, what is typically more favored the Vyper or the War Walker? In all honesty when it comes down to what I purely like better the Vyper wins. It also has the ability to keep up with my other forces much more easily than the War walker. However, the War Walker does pack an extra Scatter Laser as well as have the ability to get into melee combat. Any suggestions?

Seriously, having an extra Scatter Laser makes a huge difference (especially with BS3). Plus, you can have him outflank in order to get shots on your enemies rear armor if you need it.

So there would be no positives to bringing the Vyper over the War Walker? Is the Vyper kinda useless on the grand scale of things than?

I wouldn't say that. Vypers are more useful in larger point games- games where your heavy support is already full (maybe with War Walkers, maybe with Prisms, Night Spinners and / or a Falcon)

Vypers are a good way to get more s6 fire power into your list as a 2 shuri Vyper is only 60 points. They are going to lose out to War Walkers when you have the ability to take both, but remember that Heavy Support slots are more highly contested.

Ok, that makes sense. I guess I didn't think about the restrictions on Heavy Support. Thanks for the clarification. When should I be thinking about it? If I am planning on 1 Falcon and 2 Fire Prisms (none in squads) will I not be able to field a War Walker with that combo?

Correct you only have 3 slots and 2 prisms + Falcon would fill all 3.

Focus on what you would like to have in your 2k army and take a sampling of that for your 500 pt army.

From a financial standpoint, I would recommend the hyper than. Take it with 2 shuri cannons so you still get 6 shots.

The war walker would be illegal alongside 3 heavy support tanks and the vyper would be legal. You lose out on some range and shots, and you save some cash. Ymmv

Well, I already bought the War Walker so I will be sticking with that for 500 points. But 1000+ I will have to go Vyper, and I may be using it for some battles anyway just to get familiar with the mechanics of it. Thank you for your help everyone.

Just a friendly suggestion. Do a proxy for 3 War Walkers in a squad before you commit to the 2 Prisms + Falcon. 3 War Walkers all with Scatter Lasers is incredibly deadly (toss on Guide for even more fun). They may impress you enough to change your plans.

what do you need in an army is what you should ask your self do you want out flankers? take walkers do you want some fast fire support that can jet around and strike then take vypers like many things its about what roll you need filled and what will do it best
