Recently had a battle in which we had some interesting mixes of ws within one mob. My buddy had a squad which contained 2 guardsmen, 1 Platoon Leader, and Commisar Yarrick (Respectively ws- 2x3, 1x4, 1x5). This seemed an easy one for me. When considering their defensive ws value the group had ws-3...as 2 of them had the same value, and the other two had two varying higher scores.

Or those who love pie would say the guardsmen were 50% of the pie, the Col. was 25%, and the Commisar (while tasty) is also only 25% of the pie.

My buddy was of the opinion that since two were high, and two were low that the higher ones had the majority.

Help here...?

Majority, in British, means majority or plurality in American.

So the group that has the largest amount.

So this matters how?

CC attacks Vs the squad would fight against WS3 eh?
majority of squad 3;3;4 is 3

CC attacks directed towards Yarrick, he's WS5

Since Yarric is an IC, his WS is not added into the majority, since he is attacked as if he were a separate unit in CC.

But JD has it right, you attack the unit you have 2 at Ws 3, and 1 at Ws 4. The majority is Ws 3 and you use that.

If you attack yarrick he is Ws 5

That helps. Thanks. I don't think we were being conscious of the Independent Character part, and were just trying to fit him into the formula.

Even if he wasn't an IC, it'd be WS 3 as the majority.

Yes this is correct, when you have 2 at Ws 3, 1 at Ws 4, and 1 at Ws 5, the majority is Ws 3

Amusingly if you have 3 at WS3 and 3 at WS4, and 1 at WS10, the squad is WS10....there is no majority therefore you use the highest, and there are no requirements that "the highest" be one of the equally large groups.

I had a good LOL at this only to find out it's completely stupid and true.
That said though I can't think of any instances where it would matter in that much of a sense.

About the only time you get that much mixed WS is with BT squads, and then the highest is only WS5
