Hello everyone. I am starting a Blood angels army and wanted guidance as to which Hq I should take...I mainly wanna use assault and Tactical marines for this army, but i was hoping to maybe have a couple vehicles or a dreadnought. I originally wanted to do a drop pod army and i just want a few ideas... Thanks for your help

Librarian. Give him terminator armor, a SS, make him an epistolary, then give him the two powers of choice. Preferred enemy is always a good choice as one of the two.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Take a Librarian. If you want a second HQ, take a second Librarian. The Captain brings nothing to the table other than hand to hand punch that the army already has. A case can be made for Mephiston or Dante as a second HQ, but a single Librarian brings a measure of utility that none of the other HQ choices can match.

Take a Reclusiarch. The Librarian is a good choice, but he is a support character. I find that the Furioso Librarian Dreadnought fills my Librarian roll just fine (I suggest one as well). The Reclusiarch buffs what ever unit he is in, is a monster in combat and will generally run you less points then it would to have a kitted out Librarian.

My thoughts, at least.

I still like using Mepshiston, Grey knights can hurt him but you still have a good chance of them not getting you with a psyc hood and I 7 and S/T 6. Just remember to hit something other than a God Squad. Long fangs, psyfleman dreads, TAC squads. Basic stuff is your target. I had him walk through 2 full grey hunter squads at my last local tournament

I like this idea but what unit would be best to run him with? I'd love to have this guy in my army but just couldnt find a place to put him. :(

A Librarian is great, but the Epistolary upgrade is not. Most people will want Shield as one of their two powers, and you can use the other power on your turn and Shield during your opponent's turn without it. I see little point in adding 50% to the price of a two wound model with no invul even if you don't want Shield.

One more thing: You shouldn't use Tactical Marines in a Blood Angels army. Whatever you want them to do, Assault Marines can do better and/or cheaper. If you want vehicles, use Assault Marines to really mech up via their 35 point discount on Razorbacks.

what about chaplains?

Chaplains would be Elites, not HQ's.

I agree the Epistolary is pretty much a bad upgrade, Unless you make your Librarian a Close Combat focused unit. Although it would be nice if you could give it to a Dread.

Of the BA powers, 5 are shooting attacks, 1 is used on opponents turn, 1 is used in movement, 1 is a unit buff, 1 is self buff, 1 is a single target buff.

Since SoS is usually the most taken power, it makes epistolary mostly useless. You could use it to activate your force weapon once locked in CC. But once you are locked, you wont be able to use shield/shooting anyways.

Also, since so many of our powers are shooting and you only shoot once :( also lowers the potency of an epistolary. Besides if you want a CC Librarian go Meph

I like to run with 5 Librarians, 2 in PA and 3 Dreads , and as such I leave most Close Combat to the Dreadnought Chasis. Taking a Shooting Power and Shield, on each Librarian.

I have used a reclusiarch, Mephiston, and a Libby. I abso freaking lutely love the reclusiarch + DC in LRC. It hits like a ton of bricks. However I run a libby dread who provides shield and fly around assiting in fights.

Mephiston has been hit or miss for me.

Libby the same.

I rather keep the hq cheap and get more marines and DC.

If your doing a DOA army liby with jump pack and epi with unleashe rage and sword of sang. then the squad has pref enemy and the librarian is swinging at st 10.

If you want a mech army librarian with sheild and what ever floats your boat. In razor backs with 5 man assault squads, or you could do 10 man assault squads in landraiders. Any tank you choose is 35 pts off so thats free drop pods also.

I plan on running Mephiston and a Reclusiarch in terminator armor. The Reclusiarch will run in a squad of assault termies in a Land Raider Redeemer.

I recommend Mephiston very highly. Also, Gabriel Seth.
