Ok time for a not so serious music thread that will kick more ass then the others. Why you ask? Because weather you admit it out loud, or hiding in your closet, EVERYONE likes them some 80s songs. The 80s is a strange decade, that saw alot of innovation and the birth place of our current lust for electronics. So I figure, lets say thank you 80s! by posting some tunes we liked from it. And dont be shy, this is the internet, youve plenty of chances to prove your e-manliness on other threads.

And of course you cant talk about 80s with out some George Michael

80s music threads should contain at least one Genesis video and a crazy-ass Peter Gabriel video.

Man this could easily become just another one of those metal threads, considering that's when the 80's cheese metal known as New Wave of British Metal and Speed Metal came around (although the

movement started in the late 70's it continued throughout the 80's as well) plus the 80's brought Thrash Metal and towards the end of the decade Death Metal as well.

When I was younger, I thought that 80s music was crap. Some of it was, but actually there's a lot of great stuff and at least all that synth and other stuff was distinctive whereas the music of the 2000s seems a bit bland, when it isn't actually trying to be retro.

I find a lot of it quite fun. and enjoy it more and more.

Anyway, my two diverse contributions, they couldn't sound more different.

oh, another I like

A lot of people (myself included) would probably think of Silence of the Lambs. Totally not safe for work, but if you want to see it just search youtube for Buffalo Bill Dance. Or you could see the myriad of parodies on the scene.

Any discussion of Music in the 80s must include more than passing recognition of Music Videos. (It's a rule.. I read it somewhere... honest.... )
What was considered "Popular" by the Trades and record companies was heavily influenced by what got played on MTV and its clones.
Consider... Much of Madonna's music was total crap.. BUT she was popular on the music video channels due mostly to her (then) racy clothing and (later) controversial subject matter. Many acts were heard from only once through their music video, but some of those "one hit wonder" videos became so popular they were in near constant rotation on tv. Some even became popular years after they disbanded because the videos finally got airplay.
