I'm going to be getting back into IG, though I've modeled Cadians before, I've no real gaming experience.

This time I'll be going for the Steel Legion figures 'cause I like the look of them and the fluff. At the moment I'm pretty brassic, but will be wanting to expand this list and fully mechanise it when I get the funds together.

Total: 559

HQ

Senior Officer, Bolt Pistol, PS
2x Snipers
Missile Team
89pts

TROOPS

Vet Squad
Heavy Bolter Team
3x Grenade Launchers
Chimera
150pts

Vet Squad
Missile Team
Chimera
135pts

HEAVY SUPPORT

Leman Russ Battle Tank
Hull Lascannon, Bolter Sponsons
185pts

Any thoughts? Much appreciated

Alright, well if your gonna go standard mech vets then id drop the heavy weapon teams on the vets in the chimeras since they cant disembark and shoot anyways. Its better to give them plasma or melta guns, depending on the situation.

You also probably dont need the snipers on your HQ.

I would expand by getting more chimeras and vet squads while giving them plasma and melta guns like before. A vendetta would be great too since its great for tank hunting tho you might want more than 1 to make sure it dosent get sniped right away.

Welcome back to 40k!

What point total are you looking to play at? Contact your local store and see what the general point cap is for the tourneys. I would also look at getting the codex and the base rule book (if you haven't already) and just read and play. Nothing beats experience and knowing how your stuff works. Then you can see what kind of list works for you.

As for your list, don't bother putting a power weapon on your Commander as a 5 man squad (well, 4 now due to the HWT) will get hammered pretty good in close combat by anything bigger or that actually does close combat. The BP should only be there if you have the extra points for it or you feel you need it for modeling purposes. Guard really work well point wise because everything breaks down in 5pt incraments. The Sniper rifles + HWT are not a bad combo due to the BS 4 of the troops. Consider Camo cloaks to make them even more resiliant. But in a mech guard list, most CCSs are givin 4x melta or plasma guns in a Chimera with a hull Heavy flamer.

For your troops, mech Guard is a popular list. Usally they are a attacking list, giving the vets melta guns (and a squad or two with plasma). To use heavy weapons (your heavy bolter and missile launcher), the Chimera can't move. For the Chimeras they replace the hull HB with a heavy flamer. It is in effect a mech hoard list. Keep this in mind if you wish to expand further to higher point totals.

As for the LRBT, if you use sponsons I suggest magnetize them. I don't recommend them because of the Lumbering Behemoth rule (you can only fire one weapon plus the turret if you move (plus defensive weapontry)). And the general rule is a a LRBT that doesn't move is a dead LRBT.

Good luck and have fun!
