Really enjoyed this book. As with all my reviews, I make a concerted effort to keep them spoiler free, so hopefully you can take a peek at this and decide if this foray into the human world of the Horus Heresy is for you:
Reading the book at the moment and I can honestly say that I am enjoying it despite the print and grammatical errors. The pace is fairly slow but it's actually not to bad and is allowing the characters to be set up nicely.
I've just reached the part where Magnus message has been received.
Spoiler:
Which I found rather odd and did make me as it happened after the Dropsite Massacre. All the other Heresy novels, as well as collected Visions have pointed to it occurring beforehand as it was the catalyst that made the Emperor release the Wolves on Prospero. I'm not sure how Mr McNeil will explain this as he wrote False Gods on which this is made note in and is also mentioned in a Thousand Sons, another of the books by him. If I recall it's also mentioned in the end of Fulgrim that a Message from Magnus the red is received by Horus after Istvaan once he has fled Prospero.
It doesn't affect the story too much I guess, it's just quite a big error. Otherwise I am very happy with it this far.
