In your wardrobe, looking for Narnia.

Hello again Dakka friends.

If this is posted in the wrong forum, I apologise. I looked around and have no idea where this kind of topic would fit.

Today I was in the mood to draw, and produced my very first Warhammer fanart. This was a nice relaxing change from painting up my new skaven army.

Any comments and criticism are welcome.
And I know he is a bit too skinny. :(

Not so much that he's skinny, more like he could use a bit of fur and some warp stone influences. Also those perforated metal eye coverings are pretty skaven-y

Those eye thingies are epic... Okay thanks for the tips, I will take them into consideration for my next attempt.

Very nice. The snout could be a bit longer, he reminds me more of a pitbull than a rat.

Hmm, I guess you are right! I will remember that too for the next try, thanks.

Really nice! I wish I could draw as well as you... maybe draw some khornate/elven warriors, as something about this Skaven guy being extremely muscular is a little wierd... but maybe thats just me.

As far as I know it pretty much fits with the fluff... normal ratmen have a wiry sorta strength, and stuff like Rat Ogres, well...

I like it ^^ particularly for a first effort, it looks great!

Also, make the teeth not so even next time. A fang here or there, the rat teeth up front, and just shards everywhere.

Add a bit more hunch too

Generally a commendable effort, and some fantastically promising art. I look forwards to seeing more. A helpful tip. If in future you intend to do a similar pose make the left elbow (as viewed) a little less "2d" It looks a little flat, I.E have it pointing backwards a little, I dont know if youve ever held your arm parrallel to your chest line in that sort of pose but it gets uncomfortable after a while especially in the shoulder blades. if you dip the elbow "back" a little the arm will look more natural.

Okay, today I finished my second attempt. I hope this one looks more rat-like than the previous guy.

Nicely done, better then the first one, wich was good too. I have tried myself drawing Skaven, and they are very hard IMHO. Well done.

This is looking great, I love the flowing effect on the robe, very nicely done. Careful when you are making someone pose like that and they are holding something in that way, it almost looks like he wouldnt be able to quite hold it up with that grip, perhaps just have him support the staff a little more? Otherwise fantastic.

Thanks for all the positive comments everyone. I really tried to use all the tips and advice I got on the previous picture in this one. Hopefully the next will be just as successful.

Both good. However, the first one looks too canine, and the newer one's long snout is a bit too long- it resembles the old, ugly, flat-headed Skaven.

Here is another one I just finished. I always enjoyed drawing metals and luckily there is a lot of it on this guy.

Once again, all feedback is greatly appreciated. <3

Proportion is a bit off, and the position of the symbol makes it seem as if his body is facing the viewer while the rest points to the right. Otherwise, pretty ok.

Its still good, but I have a small improvement for you, so listen.

Try drawing Skaven the way they walk and stand: not straight. They are vile creatures, not pansies

The pose is fine, it insinuates that a hacking moton has just been made, perhaps add some slight movement lines? just enough to finish the effect.

Oh and I love your metallics

All and all great drawing

So many different opinions. It's going to be hard to create something everyone likes!
Thanks for the tips again, I really appreciate it.

Lol, you will be forever toiling to find a design that everyone likes. Ive been drawing stuff like this for years and even the people who have seen every single drawing still pick holes in them.

Good luck however, I hope you do infact succeed. It would certainly make a nice change.

Hmm, you are right. It is impossible to please everyone. But since I am just getting started on drawing Skaven I will try to use any and all advice I can get. I don't really know what I am doing yet anyway.
Thanks for the support.

Still needs more hunch. The whole standing erect gives them a proper look, and skaven are all about looking warped and filthy.

The above poster makes a good point. Even if one of them stretches out to swing they still have quite a hunch. Perhaps that is the next thing to be edited?

Yep, it's a good point and I have added it to my mental collection of useful feedback. I will try to stick more to the traditional hunched up smelly Skaven types. Maybe in the form of a plague monk... We will see.

The faces don't look very rat-like, I suggest looking at some pictures of real rats for inspiration.
