Newsletter:
Forge World wrote:Hi there,
It’s been a busy start to October here at Forge World, and we’d first like to thank everyone who came to see us at the Games Days held recently in both the UK and Australia. Continuing the Games Day theme, this week’s newsletter announces the release of two jaw-droppingly detailed models first available at Games Day UK: the Vampire Counts Battle Standard Bearer and the Incarnate Elemental of Beasts.
Vampire Counts Wight King Battle Standard Bearer
The first of this week’s new releases is another amazing resin character model designed by the talented Edgar Skomorowski. Marching implacably forth from the benighted land of Sylvania, encrusted with grave-dirt and swathed in the ragged and tarnished wargear of a bygone age, this long-dead Wight King has been raised from the grave by arcane and unhallowed magics.
Such a horror is a common sight among the ranks of the Undead, and these fell warriors are often entrusted with the standard of their loathsome master, guarding the tattered colours with nerveless skill and a sharp blade. The Drakenhof Banner that this resin Vampire Counts Wight King Battle Standard Bearer carries is packed with incredible detail, and the model is available to order now for immediate despatch.
Incarnate Elemental of Beasts
Known in legend as the Bloody Hidesman, the Horned Man or the Faceless Hunter, the Incarnate Elemental of Beasts can only be summoned through savage and secret rites all but unknown outside the Amber College and the hellish Bray-Shamans of the hordes of mutant beasts that skulk in the dark places of the world. It is a towering, half-human figure that embodies the ferocity and merciless hunger of the wild, a mortal form binding the turbulent spirits of numberless predators.
The masters of the hidden Lore of Ghur speak of bloody rituals performed before a great idol of beast skulls and dripping, flensed skins, and the terrible price to be paid for the service of the Bloody Hidesman. Yet such is the dire need in these endless days of war that engulf the world that the power of the Incarnate Elemental of Beasts is often required.
The Incarnate Elemental of Beasts, designed by Keith Robertson, is a base and brutal servant-form, created to defend an Amber Wizard and destroy his foes. This highly detailed and immense full resin monster is the perfect centrepiece for any army. It is available to order now for immediate despatch, and experimental rules for this fell creature can be downloaded from the Forge World website.
Games Day Italy
Forge World’s intrepid team will soon be heading to Modena for Games Day Italy on the 16th October. If you’ve placed a reservation order, you will now have received a confirmation e-mail containing your order number, details of anything we’ve been unable to reserve, and a total cost in Euros payable upon collection.
We’ll see you at the Forum Guido Monzani!
Thanks,
Ead Brown

There's a reason it's not.
Edgar, the sculptor, wanted to do the Drakenhof Banner justice.
The man definitely did that.
If the piece is done like the Red Scorpions Honor Guard kit though, the banner is able to be removed and can be replaced with a generic plastic bit.

Bit uninspired on the Elemental-thing's paintjob. The model looks a bit awkward to me, overall, although it's superb in its details. The banner wight is simply splendid, just not "makes me want to start VC" kind of way.

I really hope they do a non-standard bearer wight king as well, but that is stunning. That'll be bought in my next Forgeworld order. But it's splendid in a 'I don't have to buy that terrible 30 year old wight king GW still sell' kind of way.

Currently, Loki, Krell is reputed to be redone for the upcoming Vampire Counts book re-do.
So a non-standard bearer Wight King may be unneeded.

I like the elemental. The paint-job is a little odd but they were trying to capture an amber feel to it to really associate it with the Lore of Beasts and I think they did that well. It's got a few types of animals shown without screaming "LOOK AT ME, MAD CONGLOMERATION OF ALL TYPES OF ANIMALS!" like so many similar things do. Over-all, a nice elemental that goes from the traditional style and has a pretty good paint scheme to go with it

It's ok looking, but not great as a standard bearer. Much prefer the Banelegions one, even if the standard is a bit weedier.

I really dislike the elemental... the legs just look too small. But I agree that a large part of it could be the paintjob. There was a lot of potential there, and they didn't really go for it...

See, I like the paintjob on the elemental.
They could have gone for something hokey--but they definitely made it look "natural" in the terms of something that you'd see in the colors of critters you might see on a nature walk.
But that might be the issue: "natural" tones don't always make something look "exciting".

It's more the skull head, at least for me. The sculpt is great, and the body, itself, is painted in a very good, natural way. Even the chunk of amber in the chest isn't out of place. Then there's a skull on the neck, just sitting there. It ruins the look with how they painted it. I'll be fethed if I could paint it with the skull looking like it belongs, but its just one of those models where unpainted it looks great, but finding a way to paint it where it all works is going to be a pain in the ass.

The skull is the only "thing" that is real on the model - if you read the background. The skull is used as part of the summoning, so they have made the skull look different to the rest of the beast .
I really, really like the paint job!

Well, it's good that it fits the background... still doesn't fit my aesthetic, though. I do think unpainted this model would look better to me...

Apologies for bringing this thread back from the dead, but I've got some information to put out there for those who want a Wight King but not the banner or his headfin.
Mine literally just arrived, and I can say with 100% certainty that you do NOT have to use the banner.
The arm which holds the banner has no hand, and the hand is molded onto the banner. You can cut a generic banner bearer's hand off and glue it on.
The arm is also its own separate piece, detached from the main body.
As well, the skeletons and the like attached to the banner are their own pieces--and heck, even the fin on his helmet is its own piece!
Just thought I'd give a heads-up.

Well, I think people were just irked about the fact that the banner is the Drakenhof Banner.
I know at least one person was asking about it because they wanted a different banner, and I think you'd be able to with a light touch remove the Drakenhof insignia.
Sidenote, here's a component shot:
