if the title is a bit misleading, i apoliguise.

anyway, all the games i've been playing (dawn of war (1 and 2) and space marine to be specific) have somehow attracted me to chaos and i got a feeling to start a chaos army (looking at the chaos marine in space marine for a long time, skulking at the FW great unclean one...)!
problem is: i already got 4 armies (orks, space marines, necrons and orcs)!

that's why im gonna ask you chaos generals: should i let the corruption loose and sell one of my armies, or should i get it purged and not think about it (ie are they worth collecting)? (this question is also extended to warhammer fantasy)

if this is the wrong forum (which i doubt), then would someone please move it to the appropriate forum?

Start small get some models you like and paint em up. After orks( my other army) Chaos has the most options for conversion IMO. Grab any SM kit and add spiky bits. If you are really into modeling and painting it is a wonderful force to start.
The army book is showing its ages and is very boring and limiting in choices.

I'm a Black Templar player and I have joined the Death Guard for the same reason now I have Chaos and imperium.

Tali'Zorah: I appreciate what you're doing here, Shepard.
Commander Shepard: Well, I care deeply about the quarian people.
Tali'Zorah: It's good to be back on the Normandy.
Commander Shepard: Let me know if it's too quiet for you to sleep, and I'll find you someplace louder.
Tali'Zorah: Hmm.
Garrus Vakarian: Uh, I was there when you two had your thing, remember? Just get a room and work it out.

With the exception of a couple of builds, CSM aren't very competitive at the moment. In terms of modelling and painting, however, they are a fantastic army. You can get away with pretty much any conversion or kit-bash, as long as it's a spiky, tentacley or skull-based one, and make up whatever paint scheme you like (just say that your force is warband #893866 from the bowels of the Eye of Terror).

I would say go for it with regards to 40k, a new codex will drop eventually, and you'll have awesome models when it does. I don't know a whole lot about Fantasy Chaos, except that the models are equally cool.

Once you want to start a chaos army........You're going to start a chaos army

I kept saying to myself...not going to get a chaos army, want to get my orks up to 2k first...

than next thing you know, I'm buying the codex and ordering 2 tactical squads......

I'd say be patient. If you want to play chaos take a look at the books and minis. Deside if you really like them. If a particular god interests you grab a few of the main choices (Death Guard or Thousand Sons for example). Wait until the new Necron dex comes out. If you arent too happy with it, drop the 'Crons and pick up more Chaos. Then pray to the dark gods that Mat writes the new rules so your new chaos army will be the cheesiest thing out there.

Never sell one of your armies. You will regret it. Instead, start small and just buy a squad or two of Chaos Marines. If you enjoy painting them, keep going. I'd advise against building the standard boring netlist (obliterators, plague marines, winged lash princes) just to set yourself apart from the pack, but that doesn't necessarily mean you should gimp yourself. The codex has some overcosted units, some undercosted units, and some downright useless units, but it's more diverse than it lets on.

What legion/warband you thinking of making?

Come to Chaos ... Join Us ... We're the ones who really love you ... the Emperor is a false god ... sitting on his golden throne, he has turned his back on us and betrayed his most favored sons ... all who follow him need to be punished for their betrayal ... come with us and you will know the joy and love of our chaos masters ... immortality and power beyond dreams awaits you ... all that is required is you to pledge your soul to our loving gods ...

Really though you need to just go ahead and do it. I have nearly every army there is for 40K and Chaos is by far my fav. The models are the best, and you have the most options for painting, conversions, making custom stuff etc. The eye of terror is truly horrible place and there are loads of cool and evil things there. Remember that nearly anything can be chaos too. Of the hoards that pour out of the warp chaos marines are a small part. You can make a traitor legion of imperial guard, chaos renegades, an army made only of daemons, chaos beastmen, chaos squats, chaos spawn, chaos mutants, make an army only of chaos cultists, or do any of those above devoted to one of the specific chaos gods. Do a Khorne army with loads of blood crazy bezerkers and possesed khorne vehicles and daemons ... the possibilities are truly endless. Have fun! you'll be glad you did!

"Oh yeah ... You and what army?" ... "Me and my Zoats $#!&*! that's who!"

Yes, my friend was supposedly incorruptable and he said ' I shall never fall to the tempts of Chaos!' He took one look at the CSM codex and he now loves Chaos (especially Nurgle.)
Back to the main topic, no don't sell your an army and yes collect Chaos; they are worth it. I am playing a campaign against them and I have lost every game so far (call me a noob if you want)
