Hey there dakka dakka. I have recnetly started re-painting my tyranids and have a very good paint scheme. I use Dhenab Stone on top of a badab black undercoat and wash it once or twice with devlan mud then highlight the whole tyranids skin with bleached bone before another wash of devlan mud. For the carpace i do a very wide trim of dhenab stone then wash a few times with devlan mud until i get a darkish brown and it looks great. My problem is when I do the bleached bone highlights I always leave brush marks or it looks sloppy. How can i get a very even skin without brush marks and to make it look as natural as possible?

It might just be a highlighting issue. Its my biggest problem with making my models right now. (I'm kind of new to painting)
For the end bits of armor, I would use a small brush, get only a little bit of paint on it, and paint in individual, long brush strokes. That's how I do it when I paint the armor on my dwarfs, but their armor is a lit more simple then nids would be.
Hope it Helps!

If you're leaving noticeable brush strokes when drybrushing it's likely because you're either applying far to much pressure with the brush, or you have too much paint on it. You an still achieve nice highlighting with drybrushing, but use almost no paint and don't go mad at the model. You'll notice a slower and gradual, but much better, highlight end product.

If you're painting on the bleached bone highlights rather than drybrushing, then it could simply be that you are not thinning your Bleached Bone enough. It should be about the consistency of milk on the palette. Bleached bone, skull white and a few other colours suffer from a strange chalky texture if applied too thickly onto the model. It may take a couple of coats with get an even finish however.
Hope that helps!

Thank you all very much, i will try all of your advice and see what works best, i have noticed the chalky effect though and i just wish there was an easy way around that, apparently i can water it down to the consistency of a wash and apply a few layers and that will fill in and flatten out the brush marks. will that work also?
