I was thinking of starting a new army. I have the Goblins from bfsp (i used to play Dwarfs). I would play a mix of both orcs and golblins and wondered if this would be a good start? also what should i get next?.

Yes, that's a good start.
Get a Battalion or two.

Battalion sucks. Don't buy it. Get individual boxes instead. Odds are you won't want to use some of the units in there. Just not a great deal.

More boys are always good, doubly so as they can be used to represent a variety of units. You could either go for an army based army hard hitting units of boys, or a horde of titchy goblins (though a solid block of boys is good to have in both cases). Now Black Orcs are pretty nasty at any size of game, but if your just starting out you may not wish to invest in them just yet and go for some big uns to provide your bulwark (ie more boys). Some boar riders can be used if you want a tough flanking unit to provide a bit more punch to your charges, or some warmachines and arrow boys might perk your interest if your feel you need to throw something back at your opponents during the shooting phase (no guarantee that any of it'll hit though...but it'll provide a distaction for your opponent at the least). Goblin wise fanatics are fun. Pop out a couple of units of night goblins to soak up your opponent's shooting and maybe them soften up for when the boys get there and let the randomness of the fanatics do the rest (a great terror unit for less experianced players, but they'll provide a distraction against most players if you can get them close enough...though not always for your opponent).
With Orcs and Goblins a horde mentality works. Go for lots of units, and when you get bored of that chuck in some bigger things in the hopes that your opponent will be too busy killing your smaller things to take them out (or the reverse). Oh and squigs. ...Squigs are always fun. ^^

if your going mixture of orcs and gobbos, then a big block of big un boyz always works. Always give then 2 hand weps btw, because a 5+ armour save isnt very good.

I'd recommend savage orcs for core boys over regular ones, they're a better deal. Make your lvl4 a savage with the shrunken head for a very solid center unit. I like to base armies around one block of savage big uns with the shrunken head shaman and a big unit of night goblins with nets and fanatics.

Battalion does suck for OnG because they have so many different plastic units released later that should have be made into a new battalion but it wasnt.
Save Orcs
Savage Orc Boar Boys
Orc Boar Boys
Black Orcs
etc etc all could have been good candidate to be in the battalion.

I was looking at an item on Ebay and it was the old version of the orc boys with 2 hand weapons and body all ready to clip out the sprue together and glue the head on is there much difference between them and the new ones?. Also what is the difference between goblins and night goblins?.

With the caveat that Night Goblins are already armed with Spears and Shields and are therefore in effect cheaper than standard Goblins (but have a lower leadership)

Manglers are great, and squig herds are good, and hoppers/bosses on great squigs can be useful.

Yep they are, rather high strength for goblin standards.

Also night goblins actually have higher initiative, where as vanilla gobbis actually have higher leadership
