Well, I have been playing with Black Templars for a while, and I wonder how useful Sword Brethren really are? Sure, they can equip some weapon options which sound nice and effective, but basically they are just initiates who cost a load of points. They have pretty much the same weapon options, almost same stats, and are not that much better than initiates. Also, they cannot score. To make them really useful, you have to spend a great many points in order to get Terminator Honors and a couple of Storm Shields. Now, is there any point in including them in an army of BT?

No.

Sword Brethren Terminators are incredible, but power armor Sword Brethren are the opposite.

I don't Play BT But my friend does and he uses them. Other then looking pretty badass there pretty easy to counter. The lightning claws and power weapons are effective if they get to hit first But other then that no. He wanted to buy more but the box only contains enough weapons and arms so he'd have to have 2 lightning claws and 2 power weapons in one squad, Which i don't think hes allowed (haven't seen the codex) Otherwise I'd say their useful in certain conditions. but other cheaper units can probably get the same job done.

They are initiates with the option of taking furious charge and overpriced terminator honors, terminators are a lot better.

There are very limited uses for them in a list in my opinion. The only real viable one that is of note for me is putting a minimum sized squad in a drop pod (armed with LC, Meltagun, and possibly a SS), then using that unit as a distraction and/or for objective contesting. Unfortunately, their average statline and poor selection of wargear makes other options in the slot much better.

You'll want termies with furious charge and then 4 CMLs. This doesn't leave any elite choices for power armour.

Though infiltrating a multimelta isn't such a bad idea.

So I thought. Thank you all for your advice.

Sword Brethren Terminators are an amazing unit: Veteran skills and 2 heavies in a 5 man. Also drop poddable.

Sword Brethren: Cool concept, nice conversion options (Or good boxed set) but terrible on the board.

That's really the only way I've found to use them to any real effect. The ability to bring a couple melta weapons right into your opponents face is pretty cool. But like others said, the Terminators are so much better that you'll never take these over priced buggers.
