Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions

Ummm...somewhere...

Hey everyone!
Ok so I played my DE against a friends Daemons today, and after staying in assault with his PB and a herald with the gift 'aura of decay', he came across an unusual circumstance. Wyches get a 4+ invul in close combat, and the GK warding save gives a 2+ invul in close combat, so the question is simple, if either such units are stuck in close combat with a herald with this gift, are they able to use their close combat save because they are in close combat, even though it's a shooting attack, they are still in close combat, fluff and rules wise it can go both ways, so can anyone please shed light on this

in in cc you can take the 4++(DODGE) Or the 2++ warding staff. iirc both of these only require you to be in CC

The GK FAQ clarifies that it can be taken by any wound caused in the close combat phase.

Actually the GK FAQ clarifies that you get the save if you are in close combat, whether the attack is close combat/shooting/something else.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Right. The two abilities have different wording. The Wych save only works against "close combat attacks" (p27). The Warding staff has broader wording, and was clarified in the FAQ to work against any wound you take while in close combat.
