Was wondering if it is possible to use say a raider as an ork looted wagon as I've found nothing saying so

As long as it is an appropriate model, people are unlikely to complain

The main point of the looted wagon unit is to give you the ability to take a kit from another army and convert it into an awesome orky vehicle.

The main limit is your creativity, but when doing it, bear in mind the stats and transport capacity it has. It'll be a more effective conversion and more enjoyable to opponents if the model you convert looks credible to have the stats it has. IIRC, a Looted Wagon is AV12, and doesn't have the Skimmer rule. So, for example, if you were converting it from a Dark Eldar Raider, you'd probably want to put some big orky armor plates on it, and mount it on wheels or tracks. Or if you were converting a Land Raider, you'd want to put holes in it/remove armor, and maybe convert it with the roof off if it was open-topped.

Thanks that really clears up a lot I was planning to put tracks on the raider but didn't think about the extra armour so now I can proceed with the conversion. Thanks for the advice

AV 11/11/10

Basically Looted wagons = Rhinos

Primarily people use Rhino, Chimera and Russ chassis for lootwagons. I have seen devilfish and Waveserpent ones as well as long as the model was 'grounded' in design or placed on the table. I would say a raider could work with effort and 'rule of cool'

The only real vehicles which have no place as a 'looted wagon' is a land raider and monolith. Those are too big and don't reflect a small 11/11/10 vehicle.

So rule of cool! go for it.

If you're making a Looted Wagon I highly recommend borrowing a copy of IA8 so you can read the Mek Junka rules. You can build a Looted Wagon with an eye toward using it as a Junka if your opponent allows it. A junka has better armor and can take some cool options such as a built-in KFF. In a regular ol' game it will serve just fine as a Looted wagon.

I've seen a looted Falcon Grav Tank where it's mode of transportation was a bunch of Gretchin carrying it, it was quite clever.

I've seen a looted wagon made from a SM Drop pod.
It was on it's side, on wheels.
Looked far better than it sounds.

If the thought of something makes me giggle for longer than 15 seconds, I am to assume that I am not allowed to do it.

On a related note, does anyone have any suggestions for tank treads from other armies that can be used to ork up a skimmer like a raider or, in my case, a devilfish?

The cheaper and better option is usually to take tank treads or wheels from a wwII model.

A friend of mine turned a Land Raider into a Battlewagon instead of a looted wagon. That might be an option for you if you just really want to use a Raider for a conversion.

Looted landraiders are widely accepted as battlewagons, even most WYSIWYG tournaments allow them. Check with your TO though.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.
