I love rats, and have always wanted to start Skaven. Now that I'm earning enough to be able to collect 2 armies (Other army is WH40K Orks) I'm starting them up. I've got 2 couples of IoB for the mass of clan rats and the cool looking models. However, I'm completely new to fantasy and I'm just starting to read though the rules and so have no idea how you should go about writing a list for fantasy. In 40k, you have to think about anti- MEQ, GEQ, mech, counter- assault etc., so what do you have to keep in mind for fantasy?

On the specifically Skaven side, I know I need a lot of clan rats and skaven slaves, and to leave the rat orges and storm vermin at home. The Plague Furnace seems really to me, and the screaming bell looks good as well, do they play well on the table?

If people could show me some cookie cutter Skaven lists, just so I can get an idea what a solid Skaven army looks like that would be great!

Thanks for all the help in advance.

In general, large (as in 40-50 or even more) infantry blocks are your friend. Fortunately, Skaven are cheap enough that you can afford several.

Don't even look at weapon teams (Warpfire Throwers, etc.) until you have spent all your rare points. The rare choices do the same sort of stuff, only better and cheaper. Besides, they also draw fire from the weapons teams.

Check out the Underempire website for more skaven advice.
