I just finished up a life size bolt pistol I've been working on for about 6 weeks alongside some other projects.

It is made from solid resin with a pvc barrel weighing about 6 pounds, and measures 12" long, 10" tall, and 3" wide.
It's actually 6 pieces molded separately, including the side details (the winged skulls) so I can make different details later without having to rework the main gun body.
(and yes, the grip is from a nerf maverick lol. Tell me it doesn't look spot on though! )

It's supposed to be the personal sidearm of a Cadian officer, hence the color scheme

Here's my wife holding it so you can get a sense of the real size of it.

Hope you like it!

Looks pretty awesome. However, 6 pounds is a lot. Especially if you are going to cosplay, and carry that thing around all day at a convention. IDk if solid resin was the best material to use. But like I said, it looks stellar!

Excellent question lol.

You can easily bludgeon someone with it! I joked with my wife that it's the perfect pistol because when you run out of ammo you're still heavily armed

A better route would be to have people buy the materials for you, and you would have to make them for free.

you could charge for shipping and handling though, but not for the product itself.

People could "donate" money to you so you can continue your work making bolt pistols and in return for their generosity you could send them a bolt pistol in thanks. Could work could it not?

The red handle bugs me a bit but i think i'll get over it.
Now you say you can replace the winged skull. Any chance of seeing some chapter specific logos at some point?

I want it.

When I saw it was green, I thought it was a Salamanders Bolt Pistol

And just wondering. Exactly how much money did that cost?

Looks real good. If you cast up another you can go with slush or roto casting. This will give you a shell mold that you can fill it with foam to lighten the model. I have done a few props this way and it works well.

Thanks for all the good feedback! I really appreciate it after all the work that went into making it

I don't want to say the total cost to develop it but it was considerably more than I expected when I started lol.
I will say the mold rubber alone ran about $150, then there were the original modelling materials, the resin, the paint...it added up to quite a penny!

That was actually full of vodka when I bought it. Yummy vodka.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm going to have to try and do one like this, not only to lighten the casting but also to save some money on resin! The mold weighs a ton though and the thought of standing there spinning it by hand for 20 or 30 minutes while the resin cures makes me tired LOL.

I was also thinking of making basically a block of mold rubber to use as a filler, and casting the gun in two halves around that filler block. Then I could glue the two halves together and have a hollow casting, and not have to spin molds
