Been Around the Block
|
This is my up and coming Blood Angle army. Please praise, criticize or just plain old comment to your hearts content. Thank you.
-Maphiston = 250 pts
-10 man Assault squad + 2 Meltaguns + 1 Power fist + 1 combat shield/meltabomb = 240 pts
-10 man Assault squad + 2 Meltaguns + 1 Power fist + 1 combat shield/meltabomb = 240 pts
-10 man Assault squad + 2 Meltaguns + 1 Power fist + 1 combat shield/meltabomb = 240 pts
-10 man Assault squad + 2 Meltaguns + 1 Power fist + 1 combat shield/meltabomb = 240 pts
-4 Sanguinary Priests + 4 jump packs = 300 pts
-2 Baal Predators with Assault Cannon + Heavy bolters = 290 pts
-2 Predators with Autocannons + Heavy bolters = 200 pts
= 2000 pts

not too bad of a start
first off to save pts id drop the shields and meltabombs. id only add the meltabombs as a last resort if you needed to blow the last few pts in your list. this is mainly because they are really only effective against AV13+, everything else your S9 powerfist or melta guns can take care of.
also you will only really need at most 2 priests, or 3 if your uncomfortable with staying in the 6 inch bubble. anyway every unit doesnt need its own personal priest. also with as many units as you have i would try to use the points dropped from the priests to try and get a regular libby for shield of sang to give your units a cover save. its only 5+ but it does make a differece
but before i go any further...what are you looking to do with your list. im not a big fan of hybrid lists like this and dont want to give any further advice if i end up suggesting a list style you may not like

Actually I think if played well hybrids lists like this can work well.
I would take four honour guard with 4 meltas to kill the really tough tanks.
Try to remember that your Baal preds are better at antitank than your normal preds.

I'd drop all the Preds, as they're filling an anti-infantry role that you've already got covered.
You could pick up 3 Dev squads w/ ML's with the points saved to give you some long ranged AT.

Here is the thing I have trouble with, the rules supposedly say that you can only use one kind of save. If this is true I don't really see the point in getting the Libby because my 3+ armour save will almost always beat my cover save. If I am wrong please tell me. Any weapon firing at you that has AP1, AP2 or AP3 will negate your armour save. Without a cover save that model would take a wound meaning it would most likely die unless its a multiple wound model. Same thing applies for invulnerable saves.

Here is my updated list with most of your suggestions
-Maphiston = 250 pts
-Librarian with shield of sanguinius and sanguine sword+ jump pack = 125 pts
-10 man Assault squad + 2 Meltaguns + 1 Power fist = 235 pts
-10 man Assault squad + 2 Meltaguns + 1 Power fist = 235 pts
-10 man Assault squad + 2 Meltaguns + 1 Power fist = 235 pts
-10 man Assault squad + 2 Meltaguns + 1 Power fist = 235 pts
-3 Sanguinary Priests + 3 jump packs + 3 lighning claws = 270 pts
- 5 man Devastator sqad + 4 missile launchers = 130 pts
- 5 man Devastator sqad + 4 missile launchers = 130 pts
- 5 man Devastator sqad + 4 missile launchers = 130 pts
= 1975 pts

the new list is a lot better...but i feel that having a priest on foot to accompany your devs would make it a bit better

Actually I assumed one priest could stick back and 2 go forward to cover the troops. However you are very much correct, mephiston might as well have is own priest anyway then one per two squads should just be ok and then one covering dev. squads would be very tasty.
