Have a friend with a Necron army he has sitting at his house, not too huge, but a decent lot he doesn't want and it willing to let go cheap. He plays Eldar and was simply given it. I used to play Blood Angels years ago, and was thinking about picking it up from him for some fun and dabbling in 40 a bit. My main question is if Necrons can be competitve? Their book STILL hasn't come out? ETA? Anything you can tell me, or must haves (There is no monolith) would be helpful, thank you.

The next one of you that posts about Wraiths being I2 and ignores the whip coils mentioned 2000 times a week, and I am going to devote the rest of my life to becoming an ancient space god to trick and enslave a race, and turn them into soulless T-100s to rid the entire universe of life. At that point it will have been worth it.

At the moment, Necrons are generally considered to be the least competitive army, maybe tied with the Tau.

However, the new codex is coming out November 5th.

Buy it now! Even if you decide to drop it you will probably make allot if you sell it after 11-5.

Pick it up while you can so you aren't accused of bandwagonmanship!

Right now? They're the funniest joke I've ever heard. They're truly awful right now and can be beaten by any vaguely playable list and a half-decent commander. I know because I'm only okay at this game and don't write particularly powerful list, and have played about as many Necron armies as Marine armies in my time.

Their new codex should bring them up to a decent power level. There's not much we can say aside from "should be about as good as anything else" really. You should be able to get stuff cheap on eBay and so on before the bandwagon explodes though. Everything is still in the new codex, they're just getting new stuff, so go nuts.

Although they are not that competitive, I think your wrong when you call them a joke. I think if you know what your doing they can still be ok, I just won throne of skulls with mine

yes, they can be competitive, like any other army, depending you know how to play them. Why do people ask this all the time?

Because they lack the experience with the army required to know so ask others who might?

It's not so black and white like that, there are some armies that get completely shut down by others. Though that also depends on how both lists are made. Thankfully it doesn't seem to happen all too often.
