In the codex it says it can fire only 4 times, and my brother insists that if i roll a 3 for the blasts fired in the first turn, i only have one missile left. I think hes wrong, or isnt he?

He's absolutely wrong. First off, it's a D3, so at most you'd have fired 2 missiles if we use his theory. As it stands, the manticore fires a single rocket, and that rocket generates D3 blasts.

Over the course of the game, the Manticore may fire 4 missiles, generating a total of 4D3 blasts.

Also bear in mind that Storm Eagles are Ordnance, and as such, the model cannot fire multiples of them in one turn, so it'd be impossible to expend more than 1 missile from a single Manticore in a single turn.

What Avatar 720 said. If I remember correctly the fluff even describes the rockets as each delivering multiple warheads.

On another note, something nice about the Manticore is that each missile counts as a weapon. Be wary of people getting a weapon destroyed result on it early and claiming all 4 rockets are gone.

edit well that's technically wrong.

Storm Eagle Rockets are a weapon system that the profile that can be fired any number of times (using the profile listed). However the vehicle comes with the rule 'Limited Ammunition' that states that you can only fire it 4 times before running out of ammo and no longer being able to fire.

Yes it does have Limited Ammunition, but it still has 4 rockets. It does not say that it has "Storm Eagle Rocket Launcher", but "Storm Eagle Rockets". I take this as I would Hellstrike Missiles on a Valkyrie. Each missile is a weapon.

Upon rereading the codex it seems likely that I'm mistaken. As with some other things in 40k I find the wording doesn't make it abundantly clear.

If it said it had four Storm Eagle Rocket launchers, it would take four weapon destroys (or however remaining shots you have), but it only says 'Storm Eagle Rockets'. Compare it to the Hydra which states it has two Hydra Autocannons.

4 rockets, but each gets D3 blasts. So you can fire 1 rocket a turn up to 4 turns and each gets a D3 blasts

Actually 4 shots with D3 per shot, 1 weapon.

No one weapon with D3 Large Blast and a rule that lets you fire it only 4 times.
