Hey guys I got 400 smackeroo's (US Dollar) to spend on an army. Now I can't decide between Orks or necrons. I got pretty excited by the new necron stuff coming out but orks i kinda wanted for a long time. Now I just cant decide between the two!!! What would you guys recommend based on your own opinions??

Well, I would go Orks.

I do collect necrons as well, but as they are a new army it's not really certain if they are any good. They haven't been updated in 8 years, you know.
As such there is hardly any advice for them ATM.

With Orks however you can find all sorts of hints and tips on how to build your army.

Thats a good point but necrons are being updated in november right?

But what would you say is a better defensive race?

Ah, in that case go necrons. Better at shooting, they have better saves and they have a chance to ressurrect themselves. Orks can only really do a lot of damage if you assault the enemy. You could theoretically make a shooty Ork army, but you will need a lot of them to do anything.

Necrons on the other hand are fairly good marksmen, and should have access to plenty of long ranged weaponry.

It might be a good idea to wait for the new Cron codex and make an informed decision after that.

Yeah I'm definitely going to wait for the new codex to come out, look around the store and hear whats happening around the community.

But I don't know, I love playing the defensive game. I roll IG and Space Marines so I don't know.

For now my bets on the Orks just to change it up a little bit. But I'm def gonna wait for the new necron codex

If you are looking for defensive army then Necrons are your bet. Orks only really work on the charge. All assault hordes work good on the charge, so do furious charge armies, as you get about three times as many heads buffed on the charge.

Shooty orks are possible. My trick would be loads of lootas backed with grots for objective claiming, cover saves, meat shields, etc. Also two mekboy junkaz taken as dedicated transports for big meks mean you can take up to four big mek gizmos. Think, four SAGs. Or tactically more viable, KFF and three SAGs.

You can only use stompas in apocalypse. Anyway, after you use your gatler, you should be assaulting with stompas. Stompas are D in assault and assault super heavies vehicles are pretty much the only way of getting D when you are an ork. Think about that nasty, nasty land raider assault spearhead or monolith falanax. One D attack each if you stomp, that's going to give most people nightmares.

If you don't like an agressive playstyle, orks are most definitely not the right army for you.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

Mekboy junkas can have a SAG as main turret.

If you want to play in a cautious, defensive style, go with Necrons. If you prefer a 'blaze of glory, no balls no babies' kind of approach, go orks.

I know what a SAG is. You can get them in the Ork Codex. I meant a junka.

Its a vehicle in IA8 is what zilegil is trying to say.

It's a small Rhino based vehicle, normally with a deffrolla, that can be taken as a dedicated transport for a BM. It can take a lot of wierd gubbins like the KFF and the SAG.

I'm not really sure that he'll be willing to dash out money for a ton of FW products...certainly not when he is just starting an army.

The forgeworld kit is horrible, it only gives you one choice of upgrade. More worth your money to get a razorback and stick deffrolla on it.
