I have been looking at schemes of necrons to use on the new release. Have been painting necrons since forever and I want something new. I'm at a 50/50 split between two separate schemes, an ancient swamp world theme and a brand new chromed out theme.

Ancient Swamp:

Chromed:

Just curious as to what others opinions are! (sorry if this is in the wrong forum area)

Swampswamswamp. A thousand votes for swamp. Those are the first interesting 'crons I've seen in God knows how long.

Swamp theme adds some nice personality over the Silver Standard!

chromed could be really good if you added another few colours in there so as to detract from the shiney-ness of it. but judging from the results i have seen elsewhere, the chrome doesn't like to be painted over.

so go with the swampy, icky, lovely-ness that is the first army

There is much more personality (Necrons with personality?) in the swap scheme. Doooo it...

I guess it doesn't even have to be swamp either. Could be dust/sand, forest, snow, or whatever else kind of world you can think of that these things would come out of the ground on...

The chromes cool, but in a "we look like like normal necrons that had a little bit more time to polish this morning" kind of way. Swamp look rules.

Definitely swamp, they have much more character and visual appeal IMHO.

Swamp would look very cool

BUT only if you have the time and patience required to do a really good job with it

I'm extremely patient with these things, thats why I wanted to take it beyond the regular paint job. The chroming requires a bunch of layers and the swamp look requires alot of work.

see, the chrome look doesn't LOOK hard to do, while the swamp ones look damn near impossible. If you can pull off swamp, people will be much more impressed.

I know I would be, even if they are nearly equal in difficulty. Swamp probably tests your greenstuff skills / sculpting skills more than your painting skills, really.

Swamp by far. Chrome is just cheesy and way too T-800.

Yeah i was thinking it looked green stuff-esque. I wonder if you used real grass or the like and then covered it in a glaze if it would rot without being being exposed to oxygen. That might even look cool but I dont want my army to stink.

Swamp. Chrome looks boring, and in mass wouldn't look as neat on the table.

Swamp definently. However maybe you should go like the ancient section in the current cron codex, with the flock here and there on the body and a weathered look in the paint job.

Veteran Sergeant wrote:In the grim darkness of the far future, the guy with a rifle is the weakest man on the battlefield, left to quake in terror, hoping the two or three shots he gets do the job before somebody runs screaming across the battlefield to hit him with an energized stick.

Swamp is amazing.. Anyone know how he pulled the color off? The models look like he started with a brown then worked over it with gold and highlighted with silver.. Perhaps some brown/sepia washes in between. The Monolith looks different though... Has some blue tones (maybe) to it.. Cant really place it. Anyone know how he pulled that off?

Concerning the chrome, it is a little boring but I could go for it if you went full on terminator and put skulls all over the bases.
