Please be gentle!

I've been able to do around 3 models so far. Still really enjoying it and with each model I do I can already feel like I'm getting better and developing my own techniques

My first model though... Well, it was a complete disaster. I think the problem was just that the coat of black spray paint that I put on was just way too thick.
.
I apologize if the quality for all these photos aren't too good, I've just been taking them off my phone.

My second one was a lot better, I made sure the initial coat I put on was a lot thinner, and I was pretty happy with the overall results! At the moment, he has no weapon but he will be equipped with a melta as soon as I'm able to get the bits.

My third model I just finished this morning, and I am actually *really* happy with this one, for my personal expectations it's exceeded them by a pretty big margin - I didn't think I'd be able to get one of my own models to look like this for quite some time.

On this one I painted the chest eagle with a white and went over it with a Gryphonne Sepia wash to give it an aged feeling to it. I think I'll be doing a lot of my chest eagles like this. Also, I know the grenades aren't yet painted but I'll get them done soon.

Not much to say on the jump packs. I did a Badab Black wash on the exhausts to try and add some flavour to it.
I'll definitely be posting more updates as I keep painting though, and any constructive criticism/comments/questions are most welcome

Big thanks to everyone here and as well as the Space Marine forum for helping me get back into this fantastic hobby.

I can see you're making progress!

try to thin your paints with some water, it really helps! but not too thin!

They look really good. A nice smooth red and yellow going on there.
A thin black wash on the rest of the armour would look nice, I rekon.

That yellow is really good for someone who's so fresh into painting. Nice job!

BTW, you probably want to remove the mold lines from the model before you start painting. Trust me, it'll look *that* much better afterwards!

For thirteen years I had a dog with fur the darkest black. For thirteen years he was my friend, oh how I want him back.

Paint the heads separately from the bodies if you aren't already.
Try priming in grey instead of black, not just for BA for everything.
Defiantly get those mold lines.

Your reds and yellows are great and considering you have shown improvement in three models I can only figure you'll keep smoothly out.
I'll echo the call to thin your paints, water works. you can also add a drying retarder or flow improver or both to that water.
I don't know where the GW painters have landed on this now but chest eagles are generally black or yellow on the rank and file and gold on veterans. But the sepia was looks really good, just make it uniform.
Always love to see new BA! Welcome back.

I'll try thinning out the paint on a future model though for sure. I did try it when I first started off but it came out way too thin (I just put one drop in) but I'll try and improve on that! I'll also try removing the mold lines too, I have a stanley knife here so it wouldn't be too hard I don't think.
About the chest eagle as well, main reason I think I'm going to stick with that is that they just looked a bit too 'bland' being just red and black, so I thought I'd add a personal touch to it But yeah from now on I'll keep it uniform with all my assault marines.

Also with priming, I did start out with the black on the first two models, but on the last one I gave him a while undercoat. For me I actually used less paint, it cut down time and the shades look pretty much even I think. I thought though that if I did want to add that extra black in some spots I'd either use the wash or try and dig in there with a highlighting brush.

I think when I do my sergeant though I'll try out the badab black

Thanks everyone for the comments! Really appreciate it.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I actually just finished another one, I took some progression shots of it, but this will be my last RAS post (I'm sure no one wants me posting another 23 Assault Marine pictures! :p) I mostly took these because my girlfriend wanted to see how it looks start to finish but wouldn't hurt putting it here too.

Undercoat of Army Painter Matt White

Vallejo Extra Opaque Heavy Red in all areas that need it

Covering in Vallejo Game Colour Bloody Red + a Baal Red wash.

Adding on Vallejo Extra Opaque Heavy Ochre onto the helm, a white coat on the chest eagle over any reds that might have accidentally got on there and Vallejo Game Colour ***** Black to the jump pack straps, Bolt Pistol and Chainsword (Trust me, you don't want to know what colour they actually called it)

Finishing touches! Adding GW Boltgun Metal to the jump pack straps, Bolt Pistol and Chainsword as well as a wash of Badab Black, adding a layer of Vallejo Game Colour Golden Yellow to the helm, a wash of Gryphonne Sepia for the helm as well as the chest eagle, Badab Black wash for the jump pack exhausts and a mix of VGC Golden Yellow and VGC Imperial Blue (I think a 3:1 ratio in favour of the yellow) for the green eyes as well as the base (Once the base is dried out a lot more I'll go over the edges with another layer)

Really happy with this one as well! The lighting is pretty poor in some of those shots though, so it kind of looks as if there's some white underneath the Bolt Pistol and the shoulderpad, so no need to worry about that

I'm back with a finished Sergeant and another Assault Marine!
I'm sorry this took so long to do, I've been having some issues recently, my Dad was in a motorcycle accident (He's fine though, just a badly bruised shoulder) and my girlfriend and I have been having some trouble... Here's to that working out though!

Anyway, I won't bore you with that. I did say previously that I wouldn't post another regular Assault Marine but I think this is an exception, as he's the first one to use any Death Company parts. I also did try and water down the colours a bit, again they came out 'too' watery (I think it was about a 7:1 ratio) so that may be something I'd need to touch up on... And I also forgot to remove mold lines '^^

Onto the show!

Assault Marine front

A better look at the Chainsword

My first Sergeant w/ Powerfist. I did go over this one with a Badab Black wash, but I found I had to cover up some parts with the VGC Bloody Red too much, so I think I'll just be sticking to the Baal Red for the bigger jobs.

A better look at the fist, not too happy with how the skull and wings were painted, but I'll touch up on that another time

Together

Jump packs (Magnetized)

And for the sake of things, here are the 5 I have painted together! (I don't think my 'first' Blood Angel disaster will really be included in my main army haha)

As always constructive criticism, comments and any possible questions are most welcome
(I also need to give the thread a new title I think )
