This might sound like a random question; for my sister's birthday cake I am making a zombie duck cake and I have no idea what colours to use. What colours would you suggest I should use?
Thanks.

You're making a cake of a duck that quacked?

Hmm... grey for the feathers, a sickly green for the bill.

There are some who walk until their legs fail them and they fall to the ground. I find that respectable.
Then there are those who drag themselves further. I find that admirable.

Dark green with some putrid, nurgley highlights and some greyed out black for the body. Just like a zombie Duck Hunt duck.

In your base, ignoring your logic.

Vanilla frosting with a bit of black food coloring in it, the frosting will turn gray as opposed to black. If you want black then I suggest gray food coloring with a chocolate frosting because that will turn black.

As far as green goes, green food coloring blends pretty well with vanilla frosting and if you add just a splash of black food coloring it should turn out to be a nasty looking green for a bill. Mix a bit of green with yellow and vanilla frosting and you should get a pale yellowish-green for the feathers.
