Why is it that more people look at an interesting post but fail to comment. I mean in this community 14,000 souls are signed on but you cannot get a simple reply until 50+ odd people look at first. If I open a forum cause it looks interesting from the title I leave something before going to find something else. Why can people now extend the same courtesy to others.

Seriously? I've got to reply to every thread I open?

I open a lot of threads to see what it's really about. Most of the time I can't give a constructive answer, so I don't.

When I post for help myself, I find it's better to see a few replies with useful info, than 20 replies with "sorry, I can't help you".

Because an "interesting post" might not be interesting to everybody who reads it. Or perhaps somebody is interested, but doesn't really have anything to add to the post. I much prefer waiting to hear a few well thought-out posts, than to have to wade through a bunch of posts that add nothing to a discusion in order to get to the few good posts.

That is another thing that grinds my gears. When people post replies to ruling question they do not state where they find their rules. I think that they should quote where they find the rule that they are trying to correct for another person.

Sometimes you come across threads that you think might be interesting from the title... but aren't.
Sometimes you open a thread just to check what it's actually about.
Sometimes you open a thread and discover it's actually not about what you thought it was about.
Sometimes you're interested in the subject, but don't actually have anything worthwhile to contribute to the discussion.

And some people just aren't interested at all in participating in online discussion. The forum is essentially the same for them as a blog... something to read, not something to participate in.

Then make sure you ask for a reference citation. Most rules questions ask for a ruling, not for a citation. For example:

(A)Does a squad of marines that stop a battlewagon with a deff rolla from tank shocking them still take hits from the deff rolla?

Yes, they still take the hits from the deff rolla.

(B)Can anyone tell me where I can find a ruling on whether or not a squad that stops a battlewagon with a deff rolla from tank shocking them takes deff rolla hits?

Yes, they still take hits from the deff rolla. You can find the info in the Codex: Orks FAQ.

This thread would have been much more entertaining if everyone looked but no one responded.

I think that it would make me more frustrated but I am able to laugh in the end.

I also like to point out that I understand most do not have something to contribute or that some do not have the right thing to say. Some end up in the wrong forum or take it for something else.

I just think that when it comes to certain topics that have 0 reply I get frustrated when it takes 50 people to view it before someone replies.

I'd rather have 10 posts in my painting thread giving something resembling honest critique than 1000 saying "yeah looks good" or something of the sort. I'd rather have posts with something resembling content.

Why should I have to, or want to? I mean sure I can give my own 2 cents, but sometimes, I prefer to keep my mouth shut.
And not just because what I have to say is offensive, it generally isn't, but I usually either don't have an opinion, don't care about the subject that much, Unable to properly word my reply, or quite simply just came to look at some pictures.

This right here. I'd rather be known as the poster you know has something to say and is actually interested in the topic when he posts, rather than the poster who posts in everything to raise his post count or something. I'd like to think that in a few years my low post count but long membership will get people to take me a little more seriously when I post. Heck, take a look at the member log at the bottom of the forums. Yesterday it was like 1500 registered users online, 32000 guests. I spent more than 3 years lurking here before making an account and deciding to post my opinions/share my knowledge.

The Batrep and Army build forum is where I lurk/post(!).

Time is an elusive quality for most of us, my biggest regret on dakka is seeing guys/girls posting decent batreps/army builds and getting 0 responses.

For me time on dakka is almost an "enemy" due to other commitments.

Having said that, there is a tendancy on this forum for certain posters to garner more "views" then others.

Best bet OP: Keep plugging away. if your posts are decent quality they will get noticed - even it if takes some time and effort

Wow, I'd insert an arrogant cat pic here but its against the forum rules.

You think a low post count but "long term membership" lets users
take me a little more seriously when I post

Primarily because my opinion of whatever is merely an echo to those who have posted before and makes my post kinda pointless. That and being irritable half the time what I would post would not be the nicest thing thats been said in that particular thread.

Curiosity doesn't mean interest.

Or sometimes you open a thread that turns out 100% opposite of what you were expecting.

Really - it would probably be better if more people read, and fewer replied.

Look at how unhelpful/OT/mean/trolling/nonsense/etc most posts on the internet are.

Or how many people just repeat some of the same things said in the first 10 posts for 30 pages.

Look at how little I added with this post!
